Excellent value, easy to use and out performs much more expensive items. Some complain about fitting the battery but you just have to be patient and fiddle with it. battery lasts ages. I know as I have purchased this as a spare. I left my first one with a customer so she can tell when her bathroom rendering has dried and I can tile it!

I mainly use this for testing plaster, although I imagine it would work on any material. It is basic, simple and quite effective. The red lights and sound vary in number / strength depending on the degree of damp. So if it's very damp all red lights come on and the meter has a high pitched scream. Easier to use than more complex meters - nothing to read or study - instant reaction. One big design weakness is that it is a struggle to fit the battery in the compartment and close the lid. Also it is a pity a battery is not included.

This is rubbish. The battery cover took ages to refit after putting in the battery. It did not give reproducible readings on the same area of plaster or even on the hand (recommended as a means of testing). Sometimes the audible signal worked and sometimes it didn't. This was useless for detecting the area of damp on my chimney breast. I was misled by the "CE approved" in the product description. I gave it one star as a zero option is not available. Full marks to Amazon for the amazingly efficient returns procedure and almost instantaneous refund.

Bought this for my Son as he had a raised line appear in the plaster on an internal wall. Didn't want to spend a lot of money on a detector as we were not sure if it was caused by damp . However, this is an amazingly easy to use gadget - touched wall above mark with the detector and nothing, touched wall below mark and it showed an immediate response to damp. Had investigations done and it was caused a leaking pipe - all now repaired!

I bought this as we had a water leek in the house and it's being dried out by a contractor appointed by our insurance company. I've had a suspicion that it's been dry for some time and wanted to check for damp my self.the device works and no damp was detected with the hand held one I purchased.good job

This item proves to be good value for money. It does exactly what it was designed for as it has enabled me to locate damp areas in the walls of my home. it cleverly indicates the intensity of the dampness as the pitch of the alarm is raised as the level of dampness increases. This is a very useful piece of equipment in a property like mine which is over 100 years old and has solid rather than cavity walls and can suffer from rising damp because of deteriorating damp proofing.

Positives: Instructions are clear and in plain English. The letters CE are shown in big letters on the packaging, on the instructions and on the product. Negatives: The battery compartment was very tight and the cover difficult to put on (even harder to open once the battery was in). The internal speaker worked once when I tested on the front of my hand, but didnt work again even when I tested on a damp cloth. The over emphasis on CE made me check what the directive means "The CE marking must be placed on the product by the manufacturer, or by his authorised representative within the EEA or Turkey. It must be placed according to its legal format to the product or its data plate. It must be visible, legible and impossible to remove.". The product has a CE sticker that fell off! There are no other certifications, model number, or "made in" details of any sort either printed/painted onto or molded into the plastic making it look cheap. The first push into plaster board and the prongs came lose, now it doesnt work at all.

IT WORKS....having paid thousands for damp proofing of house ,this was bought just to make sure it was worth it.(it was) Easy to use but does not come with a battery . lights up and squeels if very damp and low sound if just a bit - best to test first on something like a damp/wet cloth.
