Ideal for PoE Camera Projects – No Extra Power Needed
I’ve been using the TP-Link TL-SG1005P-PD switch when adding security cameras, and it’s been a total game-changer. Since it’s PoE-powered, there’s no need to run 110V to each location—just a single Ethernet cable supplies both data and power. That makes installs cleaner, faster, and much more flexible.It’s completely plug-and-play, super reliable, and the fanless design means it runs silently, which is great for indoor use. I also appreciate the PoE passthrough capabilities—perfect for chaining devices where outlets are limited. Overall, this switch is rock-solid and a great value for small PoE camera setups.I plan to continue to grow my TP-Link Omada network using these, as well as the larger rack mount switches.

Great PoE++ powered switch
this is a great PoE++ powered switch. I found it very convenient when I ran out of ports on my main PoE switch to use this as an extension. This switch powered via the network cable connecting the two switches and gave 4 additional ports.

POE pass thru powered 5-port switch
Used it to power 4 ethernet connected POE security cameras. I connected a power injector in my home office to my UPS and mounted the switch where all the camera cables came together on another floor of the house. Very clean installation because the switch and the cameras don't need any outlets and everything is powered by the uninterruptable power supply in the office. If I had used wifi cameras I would have avoided the cables but would require an outlet nearby the cameras and they wouldn't have the support of the UPS. This switch makes it all very clean and reliable.

Excellent for junction boxes without power installation
The small form factor, and being able to be powered through a POE in port, it makes this switch an excellent option to be installed inside junction boxes where no AC power is available.

Unify passive PoE injectors prevent device from starting
This device works great once it's up and running and powers multiple devices no problem. Although I have one Unifi AP (UAP-AC-LR) that requires an older PoE injector (12W I believe?) and it doesn't allow this PoE switch to boot up. Maybe there is some negotiation issue, but not sure. I tried playing with the link detection settings in my NetGear 8 port PoE switch and couldn't get it to work. I ended up getting a Z-Wave smart plug (can't use WiFi of course) that I can use to turn off the AP temporarily if the switch is not turning. Should only be needed if the power goes out.

This thing is magical, it makes iffy cable runs work!
Yep, it's great. It made an excessively long run if non standard cable work reliably.

The sound of silence
I have a different use case for this than most people. See, I am very noise sensitive. And every network switch I've ever owned has made some form of noticeable squealing, mostly from cheap power circuitry. It just drives me crazy. Well, since this switch is POE powered, it is completely silent. The power is coming from my network closet, where I can't hear it after all. This is perfect for my media room. And as a bonus it frees up an outlet for my various media players.The switch has performed well. I have no problem pulling files from my NAS at speed. And it never needs to be rebooted. I'm quite happy with it.
