Fun for young kids
Nutshell: This is a cute toy, but it is for young kids. The box itself says 6+, the title and description have a number of different age recommendations ranging from 5 to 13. Due to its limited capabilities, I do not think it would hold the attention of kids over 5 or 6 for very long. See below for more info.Appearance and build: The robot is a good size - approximately 15 inches tall. It seems well-built. It is attractive, mostly white with blue and black decorations. The backpack lights up and the (very basic) screen that acts as a face is bright and suggests expressions. The joints seem like possible points of failure, especially if a kid is rough with them, but no more so than most toys of this type. The wheels are certainly going to get dirty and need cleaning from time to time - I wish there were an easy way to clean them. It would also be nice if the robot were water-resistant (especially given that it requires water to run, see Power section below), but it says to be careful not to drip water on the robot body.Capabilities: This robot can do two basic things - talk and move around. Within those two categories, there are a few options. Talking: The robot voice is understandable and says a variety of things with a slight British accent. One of the first things it says is that the solar system has 8 planets, which made me think maybe it would have lots of facts to share, but it doesn't. Mostly it says things like, "I am Robot Robert." It also plays basic tunes and kind of sings. Moving: The robot can move forward and back as well as turn in circles. It glides on wheels, sometimes pretending to step while it glides. My kids had a robot in the past that was constantly falling over when it moved and Robert the Robot is impressively balanced - it wobbled a bit but didn't fall over while I tested it, even when it ran into an obstacle. You can control movement with the remote or push one of a few buttons (like one that says "patrol" or three that play music) for pre-programmed movements. There is one button that says "program" and I was hoping for more options for older kids using that button, but all it does is let you set a few movements (e.g. move forward, turn right, move backward) that the robot will repeat if the button is pressed again. They could have done A LOT more with this robot to make it more exciting for older kids. It could respond to voice commands as well as the remote. The face "screen" could be much better. The robot could include a small camera to respond to stimuli and/or capture images. As it is, it's basically a slow remote control vehicle that can kind of "dance" and occasionally says one of 40ish phrases.Power: The robot itself is rechargeable, although I was very disappointed that the cord it came with was not a standard USB-C, it is a proprietary barrel type plug. I really hate that. It comes with a remote that runs on standard AAA batteries. I wish it were also rechargeable, but it's not a deal-breaker. Putting in the batteries was surprisingly difficult due to the screw that holds the remote battery compartment closed - it unscrewed without a problem, but took me probably 5 minutes of fiddling to get to screw back in because the screw wouldn't line up with the hole in the remote. It's a little thing, but annoying. Last note about power - I thought that the "runs on water" thing was a gimmick, but it's not. You legitimately need water in the backpack of the robot in order to make it work. As far as I can tell, water completes a circuit between two metal prongs. So before playing with this toy, you have to fill the backpack and when done playing with the toy you have to drain the backpack, all while trying to avoid getting water on the robot itself. It is a very odd choice.Summary: Do you have a young kid who is into robots? This product might be for you. 5-7 yr olds can likely use it by themselves, younger kids might need help filling the water backpack and figuring out the remote. Older kids may be interested in the robot for a short time, but they are likely going to get bored quickly. My 9-yr-olds drove it around for a few minutes and then went back to other toys. This is a fairly pricey toy for a few minutes of play, therefore I recommend it only for younger kids.

Robot Robert
Robert the robot is so cute! He runs on water, and you only need batteries for the remote. My grandson is 4 and lives the dance mode. He’s able to run the remote and Robert talks to him and gives him little facts about the solar system and the human body. But mostly he dances with him. As he gets older he’ll appreciate the other modes and I expect Robert will last a while because he seems very well made.

WHAT RUNS ON ELECTRICITY AND WATER AND SINGS AND DANCES? IT'S ME, ROBOT ROBERT!
This little guy is hilarious. Kiddo loves using the remote to order him around. The water and electricity angle is a little concerning and not at all necessary, it just has a couple probes to tell there's water and it blows bubbles in the tank while "converting to energy". Works well on flat carpet, but not the best on the regular carpet in most of my house. Uses wheels to move around, the "walk" feature does not actually walk and doesn't really even look like it's walking, just kind of makes a half step with one leg. Still a great toy.Yells across the room when you plug it in to charge and again when it's finished, even when turned off.

Pretty entertaining!
This guy is pretty cool, I haven't been able to explore everything yet, but he plays some songs, move, and interacts with kids through remote. One part that confused me is the energy from water aspect. He doesn't really run on water, but appears that way for the kids. He still has to be plugged in. The charge lasts quite a while so far and no two year old is a little too young for him still, but definitely having fun with the robot anyways!

A VERY LIMITED TOY FOR A FAIRLY HIGH PRICE
Bottom line: If you’re child is young, and by that I mean technologically unsophisticated, then this robot will probably be entertaining. But if your child lives in the modern world, in a big city, and has been exposed to more sophisticated technology, then this robot will get old fast.Gerardo has not taken advantage of the possibilities with a toy like Robot Robert. The fact that it can Bluetooth — alone — should’ve opened up so many options for the designers of this robot. As it is, with the few phrases Robert speaks, this robot gets pretty boring, pretty fast. And as some other reviewer mentioned? Why the water? How does it work with the robot? Is it really necessary for the robot to function, or is it a gimmick? And if it’s not a gimmick, an explanation of how the water helps with the batteries could’ve made for a science opportunity for a child.I’m flummoxed by this toy. I don’t understand its long term value. For $75, I’d rather buy my child a set of good quality magnetic blocks, so that my child’s imagination can be in charge of his or her own playtime.
