Not ideal for very little ones learning the alphabet
The concept of the book sounds like it would be perfect for pre-schoolers to help them to learn the alphabet. While the book is beautifully presented the A-Z choices are a little off in places. Some examples, E for Egret, I for Ibis, J for Jacana, K for Klipspringer, Y for Yellow-Backed Duiker. What kind of three year old is going to remember such complex names? It is also worth noting they tend to squeeze about four animals on to a page so the book is only around 8 pages in total. The illustrations are beautiful and it's a larger book with a thick spongy cover but for me this book didn't fit the target audience of the television show which is advertised as 2-5 year olds. I was disappointed with it because I was hoping it would assist my 3 year old niece in learning the alphabet. While I get the concept of educating youngsters about african animals I personally would have liked simpler animal choices for the A-Z.This would be a better gift for an older child who loves the show and is seeking out slightly more complex material beyond the obvious a is for apple, c is for cat etc. The moving pictures are real photographs and this was a really nice touch.
