The JOURNEY Greatest Hits album you didn't know you needed!!!
JOURNEY with ‘JOURNEY: Greatest Hits’. (1988/2024) I own most of JOURNEY’s individual albums so I never felt the need for this double-LP ‘greatest hits’ set. But when I read that after 36 years since its initial release, STEVE PERRY was going to be directly involved in overseeing the ‘remastering for vinyl from the original stereo flat master tapes’, my curiosity was more than piqued. My original copies of ‘Wheel In The Sky’, ‘Lights’ and ‘Anyway You Want It’ were often overly bright with not the best separation. Glad to report these earlier tracks have now been given more overall space in the remaster creating more clarity and stereo separation. At least to my ears. (Now look friends, I’m no audio expert. I’ve got a degree in BUPKIS in that arena. I’m only reporting what I hear from my menial stereo set-up: Technics 1200 w/ Ortofon Red 2m cartridge, Marantz 2240 receiver and Bowers & Wilkins 602 S3 speakers.) Big monster tunes like ‘Don’t Stop Believin’, ‘Only The Young’, ‘Ask The Lonely’ (the acapella voice break sounds especially great!) and ‘Be Good To Yourself’ are boosted with a perfect amount of tender touch for, again, a little more separation and room to breathe. Overall, I give it an A-. (I found the brand new 180-gram vinyl needed a solid cleaning prior to playing as there did seem to be alot of manufacturing debris within the grooves. But they did come in some sturdy, quality audiophile inner sleeves which was a nice touch!) I was fortunate back in my 80’s high school days to see JOURNEY at their peak on both their ‘Escape’ and ‘Frontiers’ tours at the Hartford Civic Center so I’ll always have a soft spot for them. Nice to revisit the ol’ audio neighborhood! By the way, will we EVER see any kind of Deluxe reissue sets from them??? 🤔 On COLUMBIA LEGACY Records.

Poor audio quality
I originally rated this one star for poor audio quality. I have since learned that my turntable was a little wobbly. After I took care of that issue the sound quality of this album greatly improved.
