The Original L. Frank Baum's OZ Series
Okay, here goes. First to explain I am a grandmother who had never read the original OZ series. Like so many people I saw the movie dozen's of times and thought I knew the story. While the movie is great it is not the whole story of Dorothy and her friends in the Land Of OZ.The books are of course a bit below my reading level, bring written for grade school students, but they are a very good read.I bought the whole series in one book thinking that it would save money. It does save money, but it also has none of the illustrations that the series must have had. I have a good imagination so am not put off by that fact. My only problem with the book is that it is quite heavy. It is not a book to read in bed, because of the weight. Also my eyes had a hard time reading the small print. I guess if the print was larger the book would need wheels to cart it around. So if you are a grade school student may I say you would do better to read the books one at a time. They are great stories at any age. 15 Books in 1: L. Frank Baum's Original "Oz" Series. the Wonderful Wizard of Oz, the Marvelous Land of Oz, Ozma of Oz, Dorothy and th [15 BKS IN 1] [Paperback ]

Frank Baum's Original "Oz" Series
I have grown up loving the movie classic "The Wizard of Oz". When I read the first four books in my teens I found that there is so much more. I have found an author with an imagination to touch the heart and stories that are funny and have morals twisted in the adventures. Now that I have grandchildren I read them these stories and we discuss the characters (many more then the few in the movie). This collection has given me the entire series that Mr. Baum wrote and have enjoyed seeing the development of his characters. He has written a note at the beginning of each story so I can get a feel for what he is thinking as he wrote them. This indeed is a wonderful collection. If there is a "down side" to this book it is the cover. The twister and the cover's colors are no way near what could have been to capture the contents adventures. I feel it is too bland and has no depth of what the reader will experience when the book is read. -

bonding oppurtunity
Although I agree with others that this book would be difficult, if not impossible for children to read alone I think the oppurtunity to read this to a child and share a series of timeless classic stories of wonder and magic makes this more than worthwhile. It would be time consuming and expensive to find these books separately and although it is not necessary to read them in order it is nicer. Reading these stories again brought back wonderful memories of my mother reading them to me at bedtime when I was a child. I had never before read the short stories and was charmed by them. Although Baum claimed to be writing fairy tales for entertainment only and not for the morals, many lessons are shown in these WHOLESOME stories that are not to be found in many more modern stories which are belittled if they are not "edgey" enough. Children will always enjoy the magic of these stories as will adults who refuse to be jaded to the value of innocence and joy.

The Complete Oz
Finally...the entire collection of original OZ stories complete (albeit some edits were made for today's culture) presents in a single volume. Having read and collected the books as a child I'm more than pleased at having the chance to revisit these stories years later. The perfect fairytale, the world of OZ may seem a bit odd to some modern readers, but the spirit and power of the stories remain. The book itself is presently very directly; all the illustrations have been removed and the text has been divided into two columns on the page. For some readers it may present a challenge to read, but the book itelf is big enough that it shouldn't be too much of a problem. This book is a must have for fans of the series who have lost, misplaced, or stored their books away. Pass it on to younger readers as well. Small child may enjoy the illustrations presented in other editions, but this big book is a quick read and many will find themselves totally taken by Oz's charm.

nice reference; small print
It's nice to have the entire Baum Oz series in one cover but the page is divided into two columns and so when you spread open the volume, you have a four column spread across the binding. The print is small and the font not the easiest to read. It's nice to have the anthology under one cover but I wish they had put a single page on a page. Perhaps that would have made too thick a volume, but I found it difficult to read a book newspaper style. Note also; there are none of the illustrations from the originals. I would categorize this book as a reference but NOT a book for a child to glean the wonder of the worthwhile OZ series.

A Great Way To See The Entire Story Series
My wife is a huge 'Wizard of Oz' fan, but even she did not believe that there are in fact 15 stories in the series.Proving a point I purchased this and was delighted at how invigorating ready the stories was.It is truelly an imersive experience and compelling, thanks in part of the authors vivid potrayal of characters, scenary and context of things.Reading the book is quite different to watching the movie (Silver Slippers), which any fan will love to read and see the differences between book and classic movie. But you will read these stories not to note the differences, but to acquaint yourself as to why these stories were compelling in the first place.I certainly have found reading these stories to children especially special, so recommend this book just on that fact alone.

Great collection of Oz stories by Frank Baum !!!!!!
For years I thought there was only the Wizard of Oz book but I was talking with a friend who said there were many other stories. So I went to Amazon and found this collection of 15 books by Frank Baum, the author of the Wizard of Oz. Each story is as unique and well written as the Wizard of Oz. The movie captured the essence of the Wizard of Oz but you get a lot more detail in the book story. And you get a great cast of characters like Ozma, Mombi, Tip, Thing, and so many more. Great uplifting stories for children (and adults too) I am very glad I bought this book.

Good value
Excellent value to get the whole Oz series in one book, although the layout isn't the easiest to read as the print is quite small and the book is quite heavy.

Whisked Off to Oz again
As a child, I read most if not all of these books, thanks to my school's library (one of the many schools I attended which no longer exists). It was fun to re-read them, even in this huge somewhat unwieldy volume. It gets no points for beauty of design or layout, and the censorship it introduces into two books (though at least it confesses to the cowardice) is somewhat disturbing, but at least 10 of these books are classics and worth re-visiting now in my late afternoon of my life days.

Three Stars
The stories are all there - but it's a pretty ugly, 1 foot long bound book.
