I was out sick since last Wednesday. The access point does not need an activation key. The warranty and any services that may be bundled on the unit will be automatically activated once it is registered with Fortinet. However, if you purchase any addtional services to be added onto the unit, those particular services will require an activation key. If you happen to find and purchase any additional services through Amazon's system from a seller on Amazon, the license key should be emailed to you through Amazon's communication system by the seller you purchased it from but the certificate itself should also be shipped/mailed to you per Amazon's requirement for the order itself. However, I took a look at the data sheet to make sure. According to Fortinet's Data Sheet for the FAP-221E, it is not showing anything regarding VPN (Virtual Private Network) capabilities. VPN is traditionally be handled by the firewall since VPN traditionally is secure access to the network from outside the network perimeter and the AP is for accessing the network from wireless devices from within the network perimeter.
