I've taken variations of this class before so it's pretty much all review. It's a bit dry, but has it's moments and assumes very little about your prior knowledge. My issue is that if you rent used- beware. My book is absolutely covered in markings and highlights. Someone underlined almost the entire book, circled random parts of the paragraphs and added their crappy commentary. The description said there might be some highlights and markings but this book is in pretty poor condition. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ as a poor college student *by E***O on Reviewed in the United States on July 14, 2016* I had to use this textbook for my Biopsychology course Senior year. I rented it for the semester because, as a poor college student, I wanted to cut corners. However looking back, I really regret skimping out. This book was fantastic and would greatly help my now that I am in graduate school pursuing my PhD. Really great information in a very clear manner. If you have to use it for a class you'll really enjoy it; and if you are looking for a good textbook to have around the house (to refer to or just make you look smart) this book will really do the job.The book itself arrived in excellent condition and before my course even started, so I could go into class well prepared. There were a few bookmarks leftover from the previous user, but that didn't bother me. I had an amazing rental experience! ### ⭐⭐⭐ A good book, but with some poorly explained parts and a horrendous website *by T***L on Reviewed in the United States on April 19, 2016* I have mixed feelings about this book (7th Edition). Generally, I like it and would give it a 4-star. The material was expansive and interesting, the graphical presentation excellent and informative. Two features made me downgrade it to three stars (and I'd have preferred to give it a 3 1/2 stars if Amazon let me. The problems noted below were just too frustrating.First, the website associated with the book is truly dreadful (but could have been such a good resource). Practice exercises and exams in which "fill in the blank" entries are used are almost unworkable. They are looking for a particular word out of the book, and synonyms or plurals (even when grammatically correct) are flagged as wrong answers. The use of semicolons to separate multiple word answers will also result in answers flagged as wrong, or if the order of correct answers is mixed. As somebody who has written a lot of scripts, I must judge whomever wrote the scripts underlying these exercises to be thoroughly incompetent (have they ever heard of an OR statement or pattern matching?!). Since the text itself doesn't contain exercises, thought problems, and the like (and refers you to the website, I was left with no resource for practicing and developing my understanding.Second, since the underlying material is such an active area of research right now, much of the material is based upon publications. Many of the descriptions of the material in the publications is watered down for presentation, and the key concepts get lost in translation. For example, the discussions of brain regions in attention (Chapter 18) ended up completely incomprehensible (lists of brain regions with descriptions that sounded all the same), forcing me to go to the referenced publication to figure out what the author was getting at. Additionally, a subset of much older publications (circa 1990s or 2000s) was used, and more recent material omitted.
