ESV Large Print Compact Bible (Microsuede, Brown) Imitation Leather – Large Print, June 30, 2017

I recently added “The Holy Bible – ESV” to my growing library of Kindle Bibles. The English Standard Version (ESV) has rapidly become my favorite Bible for reading and studying. I especially like it because it is a modern English translation that maintains its roots in the older Revised Standard Version (RSV) upon which it is based. I also like the fact that the ESV has a definite “functional equivalent” translation philosophy (which simply means it is an “essentially literal” (word-for-word) rendering of the original Hebrew and Greek manuscripts into modern English.)This ebook edition of the ESV Bible has everything I want. The language is glorious to read. The modern English is easy to understand, but it still retains much of the majestic “flavor” and “feel” of both the King James and Revised Standard Versions. There are plenty of helps available in the form of explanatory notes and cross-references, all easily accessed through hyperlinks. This allows me to read passages without distraction or interruption, unless I need to refer to the notes.“The Holy Bible – ESV” Kindle Edition is very easy to navigate. With a couple mouse clicks or touches of my device’s screen, I can access a very good drop-down menu that takes me immediately to any book I choose. (I can’t navigate to verse level, however.) I use the Bookerly font, which I find easiest on my 60-plus year-old eyes. I can adjust font size and style in the same manner as other Kindle books. Of course, I can read my Bible on any Kindle-compatible device, including my laptop PC, Android tablets, and my smartphone.Highly recommended.

Got this Bible and loved it until I began putting the tabs in and got to the book of Mark. It got to Mark chapter 11 and then started back at chapter 4 and went to Mark chapter 11 and then started back at Luke chapter 9 and went to Luke chapter 15 and then started back at Luke chapter 9 again. Omg this was the craziest thing I have ever seen. In all my years of purchasing Bibles, I have never seen such a mess. I notified Amazon customer service and they are sending a replacement for the Bible and a new set of tabs. I pray it will be correct because I do like the Bible. I hope this one was just a misprint in the factory. It was crazy!

I knew exactly what I wanted in this Bible purchase. Although I didn't get all the features I wanted, it was the only ESV Bible I could find anywhere that met most of the requirements.I'll lay out what I wanted and then indicate with a yes or no whether this bible fit the bill.ESV - YesLined margins for journaling - YesVerse cross references - NoOff white page color - YesLarge font - No (it's only a 7, I should have held out for the large print version coming out in March)Single column - YesRibbon marker -Yes (although I would have liked to have 4 ribbons instead of just one)A thicker page to prevent bleed through - YesNOT a compact version - YesAttractive Cover - Yes (I am very pleased with the appearance, it's nicer than the photo portrays)Lies virtually flat when open - Yes (even from the very first time I opened it)Hardcover - No (I had wanted a hardcover, but none I found had enough of the features I wanted. However, after receiving this one I am very happy with the soft cover and am glad I did go with a hardcover. This one feels nice in your hands and lays nicely in your lap when curled up on the sofa.)Sturdy binding - Maybe (It seems pretty secure and I can lift it by just the cover without worry. I don't know how it would hold up over time if toted around. I plan to keep this one at home for personal study time.)Given all of the above, I am very happy. Although, as previously mentioned, I really should have waited for the large print version of this very same bible to be released in March. The font is very small and a bit difficult to read with my over 40 eyes. If you need a larger font and can wait 2 months, I strongly recommend that. If small font doesn't bother you, buy it today.I deducted one star because there is a section of about 50 pages that had been obviously folded over during the binding process. They were unfolded and laid back flat prior to it being packed (probably by someone on a quality control line). This is all fine and it isn't anything that I would have returned the book over.

I was a die-hard faithful to the beautiful King James Version for mmmmmhhhhh Many years! I have read the NIV also (Didn't care for it) But I love this version!It's like reading my favorite history books. The Bible is filled with war, romance, travel, miracles, poetry, and every subject you can think of, and this version makes it come alive!

Convenient. I have many print Bibles, and I find them superior for study, because I can go to a cross-referenced verse, read it, and get back to my current location faster in a print copy than I can in an e-version. And that is true for all e-versions so far. I still have trouble highlighting , though the Kindle software for Android has greatly improved and is now quite fast. The ability to find passages you highlighted is very nice.I like the ESV. It is a real translation, not a paraphrase or 'thought for thought' version of what the original language texts say. Çomparing it to the NASB, I find them almost identical, at least in meaning, and often, word for word. Where there are differences between these two translations, I can understand both using the language references I have. In no case have I found any difference to support a theological or doctrinal dispute.Having readable maps in an electronic copy of the Bible is an unexpected bonus, one that this Bible provides.All in all, I give this a 5, both as a Bible and as an ebook.

What a lovely find!I was searching for a small bible that my mum can keep in her bedside table drawer and this is perfect.I would describe it as pocket sized.. A large pocket anyway! It's perfect for carrying around in a handbag or suchlike. Not too big or bulky.The cover is embossed with a beautiful Celtic cross which gives it the appearance of age but it's brand new.All in all I'm delighted to have found this lovely wee bible and it was delivered in super fast time too so very grateful.

This is The Holy Bible English Standard Version and its text is understandable and intelligible. Strong and powerful words of life. Timeless words of Wisdom to guide travelers through the world. Amazing history of Israel. The Law of God and coming of God's Son Jesus Christ. The Grace of God the way of God's Salvation to mankind. The New Covenant based on Jesus Christ's Grace agreement with Christian's. The Work of God through Jesus ministry of preaching the Gospel to Israelites and others and Jesus vicarious atonement on the cross paying the death price to redeem humankind from the curse of death. The Resurection of Christ signaling the Triumph of Truth and Goodness in the face of evil and death.The Bible is a moral guide book to help guide the lost to our Heavenly Father and the Kingdom of Heaven where God dwells in unapproachable light. Only through the Word of God do we know the right way to go and we have here a true light to shine the way on the path of holiness that leads through this worlds darkness into God's presence of the Holy Spirit.Read this book with awe and wonder for it tells of things divine and otherworldly where only love has the answer and life is eternal.

Would give this 10 stars if I could. Twin column, Jesus' speech in red, compact size, and most importantly, text is amazingly clear and large sized (8 point) - a bigger font size than some heavier bibles. I recommend this whole-heartedly to anyone looking for a carry-size bible. Couple of niggles - is the cut down Protestant version of the Bible rather than the full Monty so does not include the usual parts left out of Sacred Scripture (Tobit, Maccabbees etc - Catholics will know what I mean) Also it is American version of English, so occasionally has "misspellings". Apart from that it's excellent. It came in a presentation box, which I still keep and use to protect it - have dropped once or twice but the box took the bash. Celtic cross on front with knotwork cross, genuine simulated leather which looks/feels close to real leather. Buy one for yourself and give one to a friend!

This is a lovely bible, really beautiful, but the condition they arrived in was poor. The first I bought had some damage to the back cover and the stitching was coming undone. There was also a lot of creases throughout the pages. It didn't seem like it was brand new, and I was a bit upset. But it was still readable of course, and I figured I'd just been unlucky, so I thought I'd keep it as a back up art journal and purchase another. The next one arrived today. The bible itself is in much better condition, but arrived in a grubby, torn slip cover that was patched up (unevenly!) by a dirty looking piece of tape. I like to keep my bibles in their boxes or slip covers so this, once more, is upsetting. Again, to be clear, the bible itself is beautiful and worth every penny - IF you can get one in decent condition! For me, £50 later and still not possessing a bible that came in a new condition, I am just disappointed.

Great Bible! Great design and feel to the cover. The pages are a good quality and not like those Bibles with paper that feels like tissue. The pages are also a creamy ivory colour, which I think adds to it's charm. Very nice to hold. Definitely the best Bible I have purchased.As for the translation: I didn't know which translation to get, as there are so many. I was deciding between the NIV (which I do like) and the ESV. ESV came out on top for it's more literal interpretation. Also very easy to read.Layout is great. The right amount of space in the margins to make notes and I love the single column feature.
