Excellent, well-written guide and resource
I ordered this book not because I want to make wine, but I wanted to understand the process and be conversant with people I know who do make it. After reading it cover to cover I am in trouble. It is so well-written, clear and understandable, and gives such good detail and information, I now want to try making wine at home myself! The photography is beautiful and really helps to enhance the subject and the text.I thought the book was laid out reasonably and progressively and in a format that helped me understand the "why's" as well as the "how's" of the process. I really appreciate that it covers kits as well as "from scratch" methods - that is probably how I will start. And I really like the troubleshooting section! They understand that even if you follow steps, things may not always turn out as expected, and give what seems to me to be reasonable responses to help the winemaker get back on track. The country wines section is of especial interest to me, as it covers wines made from different fruits and berries. But the one thing I do wish the book covered was mead (honey wine). I understand it's not a fruit, but it's fairly common, considered easier to make than a lot of wines, and could be a good "in" for those looking to dip their toes in the wine-making world. I do like the variety of wines in the recipe section - it really has something for everybody.A big two thumbs up from me! :) I think this is a great resource and guide and will recommend it to others.
