Review: Klipsch RP8000f SS vs ELAC Debut 2.0 SS - Update: Its 2025 and Dolby Atmos has the potential to last for 10-20 more years from now and it is constantly being updated so investing in Atmos toppers like these is a worthy investment and these Atmos toppers add “vertical immersion” to tower speakers such as the ELAC Debut 2.0 speakers like the pictured F5.2. The ELAC Debut 2.0 series and the Klipsch RP line is for people looking for the best bang for the buck in an affordable mid-tier range. Both sound stages (SS) are nearly equivalent in price so which one is best for you!? The Klipsch Reference Premiere (RP) Line you see on Denon and Marantz product pages have horn tweeters that are the most unique aspect of the Klipsch line of speakers. The horn tweeters have a lot of energy in them that delivers an impressive “vertical immersion” Dolby Atmos experience. However, mid-tier level speakers have Pros and compromises. The ELAC Debut 2.0 line is highly accurate, fully calibrationable, balanced, and neutral. This makes the ELACs great for BOTH music and movies while the Klipsch RP line (and any of their horn tweeter lines) leans more towards being great “cinematic only” speakers due to their high level of immersion (both vertically and horizontally). To be honest the Klipsch RP-8000f tower speakers I owned before changing over to the ELAC Debut 2.0 line doesn’t require atmos toppers like the ELAC F5.2 tower speakers do as the horn tweeters are unbalanced and as a result the horn tweeters put out a great deal of vertical immersion by themselves so that should definitely be a factor when deciding which sound stage to invest in, as Klipsch horn driven Atmos speakers have remained around $500 for a pair and aren’t really necessary. The ELAC Debut F5.2’s do not have vertical immersion due to their balanced design so Atmos speakers are a must for non-horn driven speakers. You can currently buy a pair of ELAC Debut 2.0 F5.2 Tower Speakers for about $560 but you will need to add about $229 for a pair of these Atmos toppers driving the cost up to about $780 if you’re putting together a 5.1.2 system or even a 7.2.4 Dolby Atmos setup. The Klipsch RP8000f tower speakers have been on a great sale for a long time now at about $800 for a pair. While the Klipsch towers are less subwoofer dependent and Atmos dependent the matching Klipsch RP center channel is also on sale at around $289 for the Klipsch RP-404C center channel. Plus Audyssey consistently detects this Klipsch RP sound stage to be LARGE Full Range Speakers for about $1,089. The ELAC Debut F5.2 towers, ELAC Debut 2.0 Atmos toppers, and larger ELAC Debut 2.0 C6.2 center channel I have will currently cost around $1,055. And are detected as SMALL speakers with a 40hz crossover and will greatly benefit from 1 or 2 subwoofers. Luckily I was able to find a pair of REL TX1003 10” protype subs that were less than $300 each and are also geared towards music. So if the ELAC Debut 2.0 Soundstage and the Klipsch RP Soundstage are both around the same price which one should you get, especially if you can’t listen to them before buying them online! Its really a matter of personal preference, if your goal is to have a large and immersive soundstage that lacks accuracy, balance, and neutrality the Klipsch RP line is for you! If you care about listening to music on your system you may prefer the ELAC Debut 2.0 line as it blows the Klipsch RP line away as far as fun and long critical music listening sessions. To be honest the immersive sound stage of the giant Klipsch RP line is great for movies but was rather underwhelming when listening to music via my bluesound node n130 streaming music DAC, on sale for $300 at times. Plus note I owned both of these soundstages for several years and powered both by using a Denon AVR-x4500h with an Emotiva BassX 3 channel amp with about 140 watts per channel driving my sound stage and utilizing a monolith m7100x to drive my effect channels with plenty of power at 90 watts per channel. I do use the AVR to power some additional effect channels as well. I sold my Klipsch RP speakers and decided on the ELACs as I really enjoy listening to music on my setup. I was never able to properly calibrate the Klipsch RPs, even with the upgraded multiEQ-X pc calibration app as by design they are not balanced enough to be calibrated into accuracy. There are times I miss the Full Range Klipsch RP speakers due to their 8” woofers and high level of immersion but I listen to music too much to stick with them which is what made me stick with the ELAC Debut 2.0 line. In addition, the ELAC Debut IC-DT61-W ceiling speakers are far superior to the Klipsch and Polk ceiling speakers. The ELAC ceiling speakers are directional, heavily insulated, and almost sound as good as the kef q150 bookshelf speakers (which sound amazing as I use them as a gold standard to compare non tower speakers to. The ceiling speakers are consistently detected at 90hz crossover while these Atmos toppers are detected at 250hz crossover. The polk and klipsch ceiling speakers are larger in size but lack bass, sound cheap and metallic, and are no fun. You may even consider the ELAC Debut ceiling speakers over the toppers or in addition to as they sound amazing, almost as good as great bookshelf speaker! Sounds better than the polk atmos speaker toppers as its a bigger speaker with a high performance crossover under the hood. I enjoy the ELAC Debut 2.0 system over higher end klipsch, polk, and kef products. As always, ELAC provides pure sound without adding artificial warmth or brightness. It’s very natural sounding so you hear everything as it’s intended to be heard, in a high amount of crisp detail with just enough bass and zero harshness at any level! The Atmos speakers are NOT snake oil speakers! They add a rich dimension to your listening experience!! They fit on top of the ELAC Debut 2.0 F5.2 seamlessly!! UPDATE: I now have the ELAC Debut 2.0 Towers, Center, Atmos, and ceiling speakers and finally get to stop searching for better speakers as these are it! At first I thought they were great for just movies but have found these ELAC Speakers are even better for Music! The search is over! ELAC is the winner!!
Review: Good performance and excellent value - Great Atmos elevation speakers. If you have an appropriate room, these can add heights to an existing surround setup for very little money. Most modern receivers have Atmos support, so this is the ‘easy’ way to see what an immersive soundfield can be like. I have Elac UB5 for L/R a Unifi UC5 center and some Mirage FX for sides, plus 4 Martin Logan Dynamo subs (I like sooth bass, so they are placed for room mode reduction), all in a re-purposed bedroom that is the upstairs media room. It is a tough room, as it is nearly a cube (12’x10’x9’) but the ceiling is the right height and reflective. I recently upgraded to a Denon X3600H receiver, and figured that for $200 adding the heights would not be high-effort, just slap on top of the stand-mounted UB5’s and they’d be at the right place. Being coaxial drivers, the cohesion of the sound from tweeter and mid-woofer are nice and smooth, and given that we’re bouncing the sounds of the ceiling, best to have them coincident from the start. After re-running the Denon/Audyssey setup and calibration, I watched clips from several UHD BluRays with Atmos tracks, as well as the Dolby Atmos Demo disc, and the immersive bubble is quite good, with height sounds cleary arriving from ‘above’, but maybe not quite as pinpoint as my main Home Theater room. For this small room with a 5.4.2 setup, the sound is amazingly good for the low (relatively speaking) investment. Glad to enjoy the added immersive soundfield, even on non-Atmos music and movies, as the latest Dolby Surround Upmixer is near-magical in its effectiveness. As a point of reference to my review, I also have a full 5.4.4 Atmos rig in my Home Theater room (16’x26’x10’) that has 4x JBL SCS8, which are the same Atmos height speakers you find in commercial cinemas, and that delivers a more distinct height imaging thanks to actually being mounted overhead and there are 4 of them. However, If you just relax and watch a movie, the Elac Atmos speakers do a good job and are a great value. Recommended.

## Features

- DOLBY ATMOS ADD-ON SPEAKERS - With Dolby Atmos-enabled AV receivers & processors, simply add the Debut A4.2 to the top of your bookshelf or floorstanding speakers to achieve dimensionality that puts you in the middle of the music and the action.
- CUSTOM CONCENTRIC DRIVER - This concentric driver delivers an exceptional audio experience and offers a smoother, more extended response and better directivity control over conventional full-range drivers.
- WOVEN ARAMID-FIBER WOOFER - The aramid cone shape offers even greater stiffness and damping, far superior to polypropylene or paper. The added strength allows more flexibility in design to achieve a smoother, extended low-frequency response.
- REDESIGNED FROM THE GROUND UP - The original Debut Series changed the game & now it’s changed again with the Debut 2.0 Series. Redesigned from the ground up, they sound more remarkable than the speakers that sparked a revolution in high-end sound.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Do these make a significant difference in sound quality when using Dolby Surround upmixing on legacy soundtracks?**
A: This also can heavily depend on the receiver in general, technically they are wired in as height or presence speakers, and then fill a Dolby roll. In my case they are run on a Yamaha, so on DTS media, I switch them to height only speakers and they double as DTSX channels.

Likewise, the receiver can opt to use them for upmixing and filling content if it is capable, in my case with the Yamaha DSP it uses them in most programs to enhance the soundstage greatly. So its certainly possible.

From a pure speaker quality standpoint they sound phenomenal. We hooked them up alone and ran the atmos demos with just them and the sub and the quality was amazing. The range was crazy.

**Q: Elac debut 2.0 a4.2 dolby atmos modules, spec said max power input: 80w if i use on denon avr-x2400h(95 watts per channel) will it spoil?**
A: My AV receiver is also Denon and puts out 140 watts per channel. My Debut a4.2 speakers have no problems playing on it. Hope this helps you.

**Q: Will they fit properly on an Elac uni-fi b5 bookshelf speaker?**
A: A4.2 is smaller than UB5 and UF5. If stack A4.2 on top of UB5, there will be about a quarter inch on each side, and half an inch on front and rear.

**Q: Do these pair well with elac uni-fi uf5 floorstanding speakers?**
A: It should. I use Polk speakers with them with no problems.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ I don't have a flat ceiling.
*by W***1 on July 10, 2021*

Like my headline states - Sadly, I don't have the perfect ceiling necessary to achieve "optimal" performance from the Dolby Atmos modules speakers. But hey... I knew that going in. That being said, I decided to purchase the Atmos speakers anyway. The ELAC Atmos speakers are perched atop a pair of ELAC Debut 2.0 F6.2 speakers. My system is set up in my Living room which has a cathedral ceiling. Do the Atmos speakers work with the cathedral ceiling? I think they do. Do I think they work as well as if I had a perfectly flat ceiling at the optimal height to receive the optimal sound? Of course not! But you have to work with what you have. Not everyone who wants to improve their home theater system has the perfect room to place their equipment, but they still want to achieve the best sound possible. My long-winded point is... If you really want a set of up-firing Atmos speakers, but don't have the perfect room to place them in, don't worry about everyone else's opinion. Just purchase a pair. You won't get the "optimal" sound, but you will improve your listening experience.
