Outrageously good
I had just returned another brand of auger snake, as it was no good. This has been a lifesaver. Within fifteen minutes, I was able to utilize it.First, the auger is wonderfully made. It is solid and sturdy, has the option of a manual crank turn or a drill turning the drum.Second, the drum has a pistol grip with a locking handle, so that you can easily lock and unlock the cable by simply pressing the pistol grip. Others have a key that has to be twisted and locked, then unlocked, etc- this is not only much easier and quicker, but eliminates having to reach the edge of the cable, where that key is located, and having to use your other hand to turn the key while still holding the drum. This makes the process completely hassle free.Third, the auger feed is done by turning the drum clockwise or counterclockwise (to retract). Others require manual feed and retraction, and the drum is only used to twist the cable- not feed nor extract it.Fourth, the cable changes size as you near the end of the cable- so you KNOW when that is happening ahead of time, and prevents you from overextending the cable.Fifh, the instructions are the best I think I have ever seen. Clear, concise, with illustrations- they explain exactly how to use the tool. and they not only provide options to the clearing process, they explain HOW to clear drains- what components of the drain or piping may need to be removed to facilitate the clearing process, and ensure that the clog is reached. They also explain what to do when a clog is reached- and what not to do. Fantastic! I have never seen instructions so informative, so easy to follow and so complete. Within fifteen minutes of opening up the instructions, I knew exactly what needed to be done and how to do it.This auger snake performed admirably. Not only easy to use, but extremely effective.Last is the price point. I had paid about as much for the previous one as this one costs, and it was not only much harder to use, but did not do the job. This tool is a keeper. Five stars (and more!)

Vey possibly will soon be 'upgraded' to 5-stars
That's because haven't used it yet. With a house crammedfull of XX chromosomes (little girls to grown women) youcan imagine how much hair is extracted from drains usingthose jagged-edged plastic strips...YUK!! Can't imagine thesize of 'mice' we (meaning ME!!) will pull out with somethinglonger than our current 16" strips of plastic!!1: Honestly putting the task off...do you have any idea just how many show/tub/sink drains we have? All drain at 'snails pace'? So unless someone else wants to step up ("oooh, gross") it'll wait until I decide to apron/glove/mask up and tackle this job!2: Had one EXACTLY like this growing up a century ago (a slight exaggeration) and it easily cleaned EVERY drain in our house!! And it did NOT have the add-on drill capability. On one hand, I'm (almost) anxious for next week's forecasted near-blizzard (what else am I gonna do for 2-3 days?). If it works as well as expected (especially using my drill) check back for 5-star rating.

Great Alternative To Chemicals
The Vastar 25’ drain auger is a great alternative to using chemical drain cleaners with the potential to produce harmful fumes and damage the plumbing in your home. You may even end up with a situation where liquid drain cleaner is unsuccessful and you are left to deal with a backed-up sink with a mixture of chemicals. The operation of this auger is very simple, and the included instructions are clearly written. A power drill/driver can be attached to the auger for convenient use, but I prefer manual operation using the crank in order to feel the resistance in the drain. The spiral head can sometimes be rotated through narrow drain openings, but it is best to have an opening that is large enough to insert the cable. Squeezing the trigger while rotating the drum will advance the cable during operation, but you can manually extend and retract the cable by pushing and pulling if needed.Don’t spend hundreds of dollars on a plumbing house call without at least trying to do it safely yourself. This auger will more than pay for itself with one successful use, and you will be able to maintain some of those slow drains as needed to keep them working optimally.

Functional to a degree
The fact that in my household we have myself and two teenage daughters, with a lot of hair. So it is annoying for my husband to have to unclog the drain all the time in the bathroom. Found this and hoped this would be a great solution, this is a Vastar 25 ft drain auger. We haven't ever used one of these, so it was a new experience. The instructions were a tad lacking, it took us some time to figure out how to make this work properly. After some time, it finally started to unclog the drain. Maybe we didn't leave it in long enough, not sure. But the material just doesn't seem like this is something that will have longevity - I find it is lacking with the durability of the material. It worked average, but I don't think I'd personally pick this again. Perhaps it's subjective to the level of comfort a person feels with using this type of device, or process. Thanks for reading my review!

Doesn't work the way it should
Let me just say, I'm not an expert at auger-ing, but even I know something is wrong with this product. It comes with minimal instructions and thus my partner and I had to fumble around trying to figure out how to use it. When we finally got the hang of it is where the issues with this product really began to shine. First, the trigger isn't at all reliable. You can squeeze it as much as you want but there's no indication on how much force is required to engage it. Second, it was hard to maneuver in and out of drains and when you finally got it in it was difficult to know when it extended out 25 feet. It didn't matter anyways as we never got anywhere close to 25 feet with the auger ending up only going a few feet before it tied up on itself. I can excuse these issues as just my partner and I not knowing how to use it but I think a product like this should be very simple for everyone to use.

It Worked but with difficulties
Like I said I was able to make this work, so....The unit itself seems durable enough with a nice strong snake. I got this model mostly because of being able to use it on a drill. Concerns I have with this. 1) No instructions at all. I knew how to use it but there are a lot of people who don't know what end of the screwdriver to hold so this would help them. 2) The locking part to not allow any more snake to come out does not stay locked.3) Receiving a pair of gloves is a nice touch if your hands are the size of a 5 years olds. My wife can use them as she has small hands.

Thin plastic handle, crank and trigger make me question durability and quality of the device
This is the sort of product you hope to never use but will appreciate having if you ever need it. If you have drains, chances are you will need it at some point. Unfortunately I needed it before I got it and ended up with an expensive plumbing bill. Hopefully next time I can avoid that.Since I didn’t have a clog to clear, I can’t tell you how well it works in that capacity. I did put it down my bathroom sink drain and it didn’t bring anything up which really surprised me. I would have expected some hair or soap scum. Perhaps it's only good for big clogs.I like that the auger can be powered by a cordless drill or you can use it manually with the crank handle. I didn't try it with a drill preferring to use it manually. When I wound the cable back in, every time, it popped about a foot out which was frustrating. Just picking it up would also cause the cable to pop out. While overall the auger feels hefty, the handle is very lightweight thin plastic. I can see it easily breaking, same with the crank and trigger. The tabs that attach the crank handle are also very flimsy and look like they could easily break. This concerns me about the overall quality of the device. I would prefer something sturdier and wouldn't recommend this device for that reason.

Versatile drain auger, can use with a drill too.
The media could not be loaded. I was happy to get this drain auger… but hope that I’ll never have to use it! But based on past history, I’m sure I’ll need it. My previous one was an overpriced one from a local hardware store that was poorly made but when the sink’s clogged… you get what you can. Fortunately, it worked… that one time… the inner mechanics broke/failed right after and it had to be tossed. So in anticipation, I got this one from Vastar. It’s heavy! 25ft is probably more than I’ll need but who can predict these things. It also came with a pair of work gloves so that was a bonus. As for the build quality… there’s the casing plus snake, which is made of metal and seems extremely durable… then there’s the handle/grip and turning knob which is made of plastic… I’m not sure how durable it’ll be.My previous drain auger had the crank part attached to the canister part so it’s all one piece. As you can see in the picture, with this one, the turning knob part can be removed from the main part allowing you to attach the auger to a drill… great idea. But the crank snaps in/out of the body with these 2 thin plastic tabs… they look a little flimsy and I’m not sure how many snap on and offs it will take which I would guess make the snake unusable with the provided turning knob and will only be useable with a drill. That said, it works well, and turning it is smooth and effortless. As you can see in the video, even using the drill, it worked as intended.Overall, I hope I won’t have to use this drain auger but after the quick test, I’m confident it’ll perform well and I am prepared for the next unexpected drain clog. The drain auger that I’ve seen had the crank part attached to the canister part so it’s all one piece. Broke on first use
Tried to use it to clean a vacuum duct. The wire came out and there was no way to tuck it back in. Worst tool I ever used.

Junk
It broke the first time I used it. It was missing a screw. Don't waste your money.
