Excellent bookshelf for tall little kids! *Updated review 7 years later!
The Kids' Sling Bookshelf with storage bins by One Step Ahead is a great choice for taller children. It is taller than other sling bookshelves we considered, so it will be useful for our child for much longer than the others - he's over 32 inches tall at 18 months, and he can't quite reach the books in the top sling yet. I saw this bookshelf at a doctor's office before purchasing and could tell it was a quality piece. While made of MDF, it is still good-looking and arrived free of serious scratches or blemishes. It was easy to assemble despite one type of hardware not being mentioned in the directions (it was pretty obvious where they should go and what they did.) Our son loves choosing his own books and also putting them back in the bookshelf when we are finished reading them. The drawers beneath are great for holding his small, thick board books, so overall this bookshelf holds a great number of books. It is sturdy as well - he would have to work very hard to tip it over. This bookshelf is well worth the cost difference between it and its competition.*It's been about 7 years since I wrote this review. I still stand by it - this was one of the best purchases I've ever made. Not a thing happened to this bookshelf, we used it to hold puzzles and little toys long after my son outgrew the need to "see" the books to pick one. It looked great this year when we took it to a friend who was having a baby. They will use it for several more years.

Ideal size, design, seller
Relatively easy to assemble. The product looks great anywhere. We have one in the family room and one in the playroom and plan to get one for my little man's bedroom now (he loves books). We were missing 2 screws in one of the packages and upon informing the seller, we were sent a full set immediately. The little drawers at the bottom are an added bonus and great for hiding away the little unwieldy toys and pieces that otherwise get strewn all over the floor. I only wish the shipping weren't so expensive... would have given it 5 stars otherwise.

Love this little bookshelf
I bought this to organize my daughters books and it is just perfect. It was easy to put together and matches our dark furniture very well. My daughter is able to grab the books herself and its so cute watching her pick out books to look at. I am not sure why other reviewers think it doesn't fit many books, but we have been able to put lots of books on this shelf. The little storage containers are also nice to throw extra toys in. If you are looking for something durable, simple, with a kid friendly design this is the bookshelf for you.

quality crafted, but a major design flaw
This furniture is the right size and well made. It is heavy enough and so has never given us the fear of tipping or falling apart, however there is something that really bothers us. all the books fall forward. We have to costantly straighten it out and shift books around so that it all stacks up perfectly. If one rack is too full or starts to lean forward, it pushes all the books on the other shelves forward. This makes it impossible for the kids to put the books away (correctly) and a hassle for me. Maybe one of those other book racks that are wooden rows wouldn't have this problem. If I had known, I would have tried that out instead.

Great book shelf for my little one
We bought this for our 1 year old. It works great, she can stand up to it and pick out her books, and put some toys in the canvas boxes. A really decent quality for the price. As a previous person had stated, the books do tend to fall forward, but if enough books are placed, they tend to stay straight up. I didn't find this to be too big of an issue. Sturdy enough for out little one to pull herself up on without it tipping. Easily assembled in about 15 minutes. Overall quite pleased.

good size, nice drawers, books do tip forward
This shelf was a big hit with my two year old, and it is great that she can now easily put away her books. It is sturdy, looks nice with our other dark furniture, and holds a lot of books. The drawers under are perfect for toys, too. The only downside is that the books all lean forward in their shelves, which looks a little odd, but functionally doesn't matter that much.

Looks great, works well, easy to put together
This bookshelf looks just as good in person as it did in the product catalog photo. It looks quite classy in our den and not at all out of place with the "adult" furniture. It arrived a couple days earlier than expected and I had it put together within 15 min or less. The only tool I needed that was not supplied was a rubber mallet to get the wooden pegs into the slots. Most of the pieces did not have identifying stickers on them, but I was easily able to identify which was which piece by the description and drawings in the instructions. The instructions even suggest re-tightening the hex bolts every few months as maintenance to ensure the product holds up. The pieces appear to be particle board, but are much denser than items we have bought in the past from Target or IKEA; I don't forsee them splintering. Also, I liked that the wooden dowels that suspend the canvas pocket slings were pre-drilled and fitted with a metal piece to receive the hex bolt screws; this feature I believe will keep the dowels from splintering at the attachment point as the item gets older. We have had it a week now and my 18 mo old loves the easy access to her books and toys (and is better about putting things away on her own simply because she can do it more easily). :)Yet another great product by One Step Ahead. I anticipate it will last us a long time and wish I had room for one in her bedroom.Jan 2018 update: We now have 3 of these bookshelves--one in each of our younger kids' bedrooms and one in our basement play area. They each are stuffed with books and look just as good now as when they were purchased. The toy bins do crease a bit with use, especially if heavier toys are put in them, but are still functioning perfectly.

Love this book shelf
This book shelf is awesome!! It is a great height for my one year old twins and my 2 1/2 year old. They all can reach books they like. It is nice looking a sturdy. The storage bins are getting a little beat up because they get pulled out and sat in by everyone. Overall, I love this bookshelf and it makes the room look a lot neater with the books all put away.
