Review: A Faithful, Gorgeous, and Wonderfully Accessible Adaptation - *The Hobbit: A Graphic Novel* is an absolute treasure for both longtime Tolkien fans and newcomers stepping into Middle-earth for the first time. This adaptation strikes that rare balance between honoring the timeless charm of Tolkienโs original prose and presenting the story in a visually engaging, easy-to-follow format. The artwork is vibrant and expressive, capturing everything from Bilboโs quiet, reluctant courage to the sweeping majesty of the dwarvesโ journey. Key scenesโlike the troll encounter, Gollumโs riddles, and Smaugโs looming presenceโare brought to life with energy and care. The illustrations never overshadow the story; instead, they complement it beautifully, helping important moments land with clarity and emotional impact. What impressed me most is how accessible the graphic novel format makes this classic. Younger readers, visual learners, or anyone intimidated by high-fantasy prose will find this version inviting and enjoyable. Yet it never feels โsimplifiedโ in a way that loses Tolkienโs heartโjust streamlined in a respectful, thoughtful way. Whether youโre a Tolkien enthusiast expanding your collection, a parent introducing a child to Middle-earth, or simply someone who loves well-crafted graphic storytelling, this adaptation is absolutely worth adding to your shelf. Great for younger kids if you're trying to get them into the Hobbit/Lord of the rings
I've been trying to find more long-form books to read to my kids that can keep my kids attention instead of the typical children's books. Was weary of purchasing this but I'm so glad I did! The illustrations are gorgeous and while they do skip over a few of the more fluff parts of the book it makes the pace of the book much faster. My kids get excited for me to read more of this book every night. It's also great for adults if you want to read The Hobbit but get bored by just looking at text on a page.

Good match for the movies
My son was so excited for this book. He said it was a good adaptation of the movies and he enjoyed reading this!

Masterfully Drawn and Very Well Excerpted
Rather than today's label of YA, "The Hobbit" can be called FA For Everyone or COAA Children of All Ages. Its media history and its offshoots are long, in book, animรฉ, comic, calendar, RPG, video game, and (overlong and under-faithful) live movie. This graphic novel can certainly stand among the very best of the derived versions.

Companion to The Hobbit
My 5 yo LOVED reading this version! Big sister was doing a book club of the illustrated version (green cover, highly recommend) and my youngest didn't have the stamina to read /listen to that much of the book fast enough to keep up, so we ordered the graphic novel instead and it was perfect. She was able to find the pictures in her book that matched what they were talking about in book club and show everyone pictures of what they had read. Some of the boys in the book club wished they had picked the graphic novel instead of the whole thing. It was an awesome companion and scaffold for a younger reader wanting to participate in big discussions. She especially loved the dragon scenes. It is missing a lot of parts from the book though-she was frustrated sometimes because they would talk about parts in their book that weren't in hers. We went back after book club had finished and read the whole version at our own pace-this book gave her a solid foundation to build her own imagination out from.

Great graphic art work and story
Great art work and story. Itโs not the companyโs fault that Iโm farsighted and found the print challenging to read sometimes. Well put together book.

Beautiful
A beautiful book for all fans. If I had this version when I was young, I would have been ร Tolkien fan sooner. It enhance the story of the hobbit. The book is way more accurate and respectful of Tolkien writings than the movies. You want this book in your collection.

So fun!! Our family is obsessed with the Hobbit and this has been a treasure to add to our library. One warning though- some of the text is SUPER small so have your glasses ready :)
