Another stellar production by Evro Publishing and author Peter Higham
Peter Higham has authored some of the best motorsports references books anyone could want to add to their library, including the International Motor Racing Guide and the World Encyclopaedia of Racing Drivers, both of which I have multiple copies; they’re invaluable resources, even years after they are published. The addition of the Formula 1 Car By Car series has helped in keeping my wallet lighter and added greatly to my motorsport collection. This book gets five stars – period. It covers the entire 1970s by showcasing all of the cars and teams that ran during this decade. It’s a strong follow-up to the inaugural 1960-69 production that was released in 2016. If you have that one, you know what you are getting with this one. It’s professionally done inside and out and will get a lot of use in the future.First, the layout. Flows very nicely and is consistent; no awkward line breaks, etc. The chapters are listed in chronological order, by season. Each chapter starts with a striking photo from a season, followed by a summary of that season, then descriptions of each car (team; the book could easily have been named Formula 1 Team by Team). Each chapter ends with that season’s results, listing driver performance, winners (drivers) and driver and manufacturer championship points. The chapters are consistent, you’re always aware of what chapter you’re on with the year at the top of the right page, and the photos and text complement each other on the pages well. The text is superb, full of description, free of spelling and grammatical errors and strong sentence structure. Higham’s ability to tie together the aspects of each car/team and the race summaries are easily noted. I did expect just a little more on the technical side (maybe what really made a certain car stand out, how it was different from all of the others, or why a car handled or didn’t handle so well). In essence, a little more car description and less race account description. However, there was a lot of noteworthy information too; for example, the oil cooler of a Lotus moved into one sidepod and the water radiator to the other, or the Equipe Renault Elf being “a simple aluminum monocoque design.” Every car/team is mentioned, from the top-dogs and champions (like McLaren and Ferrari) every season, right down the order to the teams that made, or just entered and attempted to make, one or two races (like Team Rebaque and Interscope Racing, in 1978). Each team has its top accomplishments listed per season, with the frontrunners obviously getting a majority of ink. The addition of quotes from drivers and team owners interwoven in the car summaries, as well as the signing dates of certain drivers and team’s home base, were a nice touch. The photos, both color and black and white, pop – they’re well-edited in terms of contrast and sharpness – and keep you wanting more. Most of the cars are represented from each season; if a team utilized multiple models (for example, Clay Regazzoni drove the Ferrari 312T and the 312T2 in 1976), then a photo appeared of each. The shot selection is pretty good, although many of the photos are cropped fairly tight, so it’s hard to tell where the races are without the photo description (aside from wide angle photos, many photos look like they could have come from anywhere). More variety, such as more straight-on, overhead and photos with multiple cars, as well as some creative shots, like blur or tire spin (I know they exist), would be welcome, in addition to the three-quarter shots (front and one side). The latest Formula 1 Car By Car 1970-79 is another great production by Evro Publishing. The book feels nice in one’s hands and is put together well. The binding is strong and the glossy paper is makes the photos and text easy to read. Evro Publishing should be considered among the top motorsports publishing companies in the world, not just due to the execution and ultimately finished product (content, layout and binding), but also the ideas, many of which they have done on their own, as well as taken over from Hayne Publishing. The decade-by-decade series – there is also one for the 24 Hours of Le Mans – is important in documenting the history of the sport. They set a bar and are to what other publishers should aspire when publishing these kind of books.Yes, the price is steep, but you’ve heard it before and you’ll hear it again, you get what you pay for, and this book is worth every penny. If you’re a Formula 1 fan or racing history buff, move your navigation bar up from this review to the top of the page, put this book in your cart, and choose your payment and delivery time.

Great book for any F1 fan
I grew up watching and reading about the cars and drivers from this era. Lots of great photos and good overview of each season. A little light on technical details, but a great book for any F1 fan.

Extremely Thorough Reference
This book is a must have for any motorsport historian. It chronicles every entry during the decade, including cars that did not qualify. The book is less a technical guide than a chronicle of each team and driver, but still contains relevant technical information. There are other books available if you need exhaustive technical details. If you want a quick reference for an obscure driver or short-lived chassis, this is the book for you. The research for this book must have taken a very long time, as there is information that I had not encountered on the internet or in other books. I'm looking forward for the next books in this series.

Wonderful pictures
Wonderful pictures, excellent reviews of each season and every team.As a long time fan of this sport (since the late sixties) and a huge collector of 1:43 & 1:18 scale Formula 1 models (over 400) this book is like candy for me.

Best car by car F1 series to date
I love this series and I'm keenly anticipating the 1980's volume out soon. I grew up following F1 in the 70's and I've never hear of many of these. Every one off, every pipe dream...all here. Highly recommended reference! Don't think about it, just buy it.

More details about the cars would have been nice!
Great books, and a fantastic reference library as well as a summary of 30yrs of Formula 1. Although the title says Car By Car, it would be just as accurate as just Formula 1 1970-79. The books cover politics, drivers, teams as well as cars. In fact, one of my two complaints is the lack of focus on the cars and their differences. It's basically a high-quality coffee table book with pictures of every car raced...from the front quarter and very closely cropped. The pictures, although high quality, are so closely cropped as to take all context out of the image. They manage the impressive task of making a Formula 1 car going flat out to look like its stationary.I would have liked to see more pictures from different angles, actually showing the design features described, and with better captions than "driver, team, race"The icing would have been to take on a car for each year and show it in a cutaway drawing and point out the design features for that year. There's a lot of talk about pull-rod vs push-rod suspension etc, and a drawing or picture would have been very helpful. But, for what it is, namely a picture book with minimal text, it is absolutely fantastic. Very highly recommended.

Best pictures of the best era of Formula 1
This captures the rowdy spirit and loose regard for the rules from 1970's formula 1. Love it. Makes a fine gift for men of a certain age.

👍FANTASTISCH👍
