Good debut...
Henry Parker only wants to make his mark in the journalism industry. He aspires to be the next Bob Woodward or Carl Bernstein. Instead, he finds himself on the run with an entire city searching for him. Some of those searching for him want him dead. Will Henry unravel what is really going on before he winds up dead? Jason Pinter carefully lures the reader into a very intriguing thriller. As details of THE MARK are gradually unveiled, the true heart of the story becomes readily apparent. It is difficult to discuss the genius of THE MARK without revealing any spoilers, as part of the thrill of the tale is in the presentation. The majority of the story is told from the first person perspective of Henry, and so the reader remains in the dark about much of the situation until each detail is uncovered by Henry. Character development is key to the success of THE MARK. The motivations of the characters must be known in order to fully comprehend the reasons such extraordinary incidents occur. Henry's motivations are clear from the beginning, as are those of the people pursuing him. Amanda Davies is a bit more difficult to understand. It took me awhile to get really comfortable with her reasons for continuing to accompany Henry, but she certainly shows herself to be a good judge of character by doing so. THE MARK is a thriller that is sure to keep the reader turning the pages, if only to see what happens next. Jason Pinter's ability to maintain such a high level of suspense throughout the story is commendable. Jason Pinter hits THE MARK with this one!COURTESY OF CK2S KWIPS AND KRITIQUES

A real page turner.
A fast paced story that gets more intense and gripping as you progress. Difficult to put down and leaves you hoping for more when it is finished.

Very fast paced, fun read!!
Just because this book read like a TV show, it kept the story to simple, but..kept me reading in anticipation. Liked the main character, Henry Parker. Intelligent, thoughtful, fair guy. Being blamed for a crime he knows nothing about, and on the run with no money or transportation, he tries to keep his wits and figure out what happened. The police are right behind him, catching any small mistake he makes. I enjoyed the way he figured out how to navigate his area. Meeting Amanda was a wonderful thing for Henry. The story moves along, uncomplicated, but interesting. I call this type of book, a break from routine read. Easy to read, but not a cozy at all. Action, people to meet, and tight places to get out of!! Fun read.

Not what it seems
This story has a lot of moving parts and a lot happens in the span of a few days. The prologue set it up for me to think one thing was happening, but the ending went another fantastic way. The characters are multi faceted and the action and emotion is never ending. The first few chapters were a bit slow as I learned the writing style of this book, but then I was Lo about the different point of views and enjoyed the richness that brought to the story and figuring out who all was involved and what caused this chain of events!

The reporter is the story
Despite a few typos and some grammatical errors, this is a good story. It has an interesting storyline, a complex plot, and interesting primary characters. It’s fast-paved, action-filled, and interesting enough to keep readers engaged from beginning to end.

Great suspense!!
I enjoyed the book, the suspense and eventful things that you would have never guessed the Killer. I was shocked! What I hated about the book was the continual use of the F bomb. Language doesn't have to be so gross. The writer wrote very skillfully Otherwise, I loved the suspense, good read.

Reality check
Well, as is usual with first books we have a I'm right everyone else is wrong and I'm going to prove it scenario. Storyline is kind of ok but there is a lot of page filling and also some of the events/dialogue are what I would expect to find in a mills and book book, were I ever crazy enough to open one. Also, maybe this needed to be set five hundred years in the future so at least allowing for the fantasy of events and results. Three men shot in the chest by a trained marksman, I'm assuming police are trained to shoot, some multiple times, yet everyone is ok. Really!!?Ok that's the moaning done,at least I managed to finish the book, usually I've quit after a few chapters, so there must be some good points but I will let others find them. Two hundred page story is far better than three hundred and fifty pages telling me about the weather, who is wearing what, how everyone feels etc! See John Locke!Hey, this is just my opinion, I've read it, so you try reading it and then have an opinion.

Gripping, Action Packed, Fast Paced Great Thriller
Right as I'm about to die, I realize all the myths are fake. There's no white light at the end of atunnel. My life isn't flashing before my eyesAll I can think about is how much I want to live !I moved to New York City a month ago to become the best journalist the world had ever seen. To find the greatest stories never told. And now here I am—Henry Parker, twenty-four years old and weary beyond rational thought, a bullet one trigger pull from ending my life. I can't run. Running is all Amanda and I have done for the past seventy-two hours. And I'm tired. Tired of knowing the truth and not being able to tell it.I knew that both of these men—one an FBI agent, the other an assassin—wanted me dead, but for very different reasons!Wow, my first book by this author and this is his debut author with a great character in Henry Parker, and a terrific story, no wonder this book has been optioned as a feature film.I find this to be a great paced action thriller that's keeps you guessing all the way, a great page turner, gripping and realistic. Not quite the life Henry Parker wanted to start his reporter job at theNew York Gazette. His only ally an unsuspecting NYU coed Amanda a woman he was just hitching a ride from but she seems to believe his story and wants to help. So now they are both on the run from a policeman who wants revenge and a hitman who wants the package that Henry doesn't have, while trying to figure out how he became wanted by the NYPD, the FBI and the mob.So nearly a five star book, gripping, fast paced, action packed, great twists an explosive last few chapters, will make a great film.Ready for number 2 !

Brilliant
This was a real surprise find for me; I have never heard of Pinter so had no expectations, and I was therefore consequently thrilled to find a brilliant story well written inside the pages of The Mark. The story follows a young news reporter who finds himself in the middle of a hostage situation in which a police officer is killed and everyone thinks the reporter did it, and so he goes on a mission to stay alive and clear his name, drawing on his investigative skills. The story is realistic enough that you believe it, and the main character is very likeable. The book is an absolute page turner, I often found I could not put it down and was reading at any slight opportunity; at about two thirds of the way through I just wanted to keep reading to finish the book and claim my life back!Grammatically there are about three mistakes in the book: they are probably in the final third so it was a bit disappointing to come across these as the grammar had been spot on for so long.I would definitely recommend this book, buy more from the author, and even read this book again. This is the easiest 5 out of 5 I have given in a while. Well done Pinter, a great read. For more of my book reviews check out mybibliographer.weebly.com

Amateurish
This was a long way from being an enjoyable read. In fact, I didn't even bother to finish it. The writing is way over the top, the characters are moderately irritating and unbelievable, the plot makes little sense, and there are technical errors throughout the book. The FBI don't operate in the way described, shotguns don't fire bullets, and pistol barrels don't smoke when a shot has been fired because the powder is smokeless. The clue is in the name. Very disappointing.
