A history that needs repeating.
Disclaimer: I am mentioned in the book as a leader of the earaly days of the anti-highway movement. Crockett's book accurately reflects thedecade long effort to halt construction of highways through Cambridge and Boston. Wisely she credits consistent organizing of residents of the affected neighborhoods and the coalition of urban and suburban residents in both cities. The story, well researched and documented has lessons that folks concerned about insensitive planners and politicians will surely benefit from.

This book was an incredibly well researched analysis of the community organizing which led to the halt of the I-95 expressway through Boston, and the creation of the SouthWest Corridor. Dr. Crockett painstakingly chronicles community organization development in Boston, and the interactions between planners, advocates, and community organizers throughout the anti-highway protests and into the modern era.
