It unzips so that you can take the insert out. No other reviewers mentioned this, but I will. When I opened it and took it out of the package, it smelled odd. I realized the smell reminded me of hamburger meat. Must have been due to the process used to bleach the fur. I set it out in the garage to air out for a week or so. Still a slight smell. Then I decided to wash it and hang it dry. It says dry clean only. I have found many things can be washed in Woolite on gentle, cold and then hung to dry. I washed the pillow cover and the insert. Hung the fur cover to dry. Put the insert in the dryer on low. When dry, I sprayed a light mist of The Laundress brand anti static spray on the fur cover. Took care of the smell and did not hurt the pillow. We are enjoying it.
