Hallelujah!!
Excellent product. Works as advertised. As others have stated, the software included with the DVD doesn't work well, but I just downloaded the driver from the website and loaded it onto a USB thumb drive, and it's been working perfectly on my iMac. Thanks to this product, I have Internet again!!!! Might also be beneficial to get a super long USB cord so you can place the unit in the most optimal location. ☺️

Great WiFi adapter
I own two of the older units that worked with WinXP and Vista laptops that I was completely satisfied with but would not work with Win8. The new unit worked great on my new laptop with Win8 and made the difference of getting WiFi at the RV parks that we stayed in and not being able to because of the weak WiFi signal.

A USB killer
I am in no means a tech person, and this was recommended by a close friend, so when I needed a wireless connection to fit to my husbands computer in the office, this was the choice. It attached fine, and gave a good signal... but after about a week and a half, it stopped working. He reset the router, reset the computer, unplugged the unit, everything. Nothing worked... until he switched to a different USB port. Then it was fine again, till an hour ago. This time after unplugging the unit, he plugged in a standard USB memory stick, and found that the USB port seems to be dead (actually, both ports that used the ALFA unit are dead). So now we have no available USB ports, and no wireless adapter. Thanks, we appreciate this.

This adapter only works when i plug it directly on the motherboard's usb port, have tried plugged it on the front usb of my pc or with an usb extender neither was working, the computer read the adapter but there was no networks detected, i reckon this adapter is too greedy on power, i suggest powering it up from 2 usb ports using a Y usb cable or self powered usb hub, lacking of power may also cause the adapter to lose connection with the pc or laptop.

) I would recommend a shorter cable if it is randomly not maintaining ...
This works really well with my Mac. I don't think it's actually 5000 mW. It uses 500 milliamperes at 5 volts for 2500mW max. I have it going to a yagi antenna with a 3 foot cable. It seemed to have a fairly unstable connection when used with a Lenovo PC of mine. It is very stable on my MacBook though. I paired it with the Alfa R36 and it would randomly not see this USB device. I was using the 5 ft cable that came with it. It might drop a connection after a few minutes, maybe a few hours, or sometimes not see the device at all after rebooting multiple times. I happened to have a 2.5-3ft thicker USB cable and have had zero stablility issues since (48 hours without dropping a connection so far!) I would recommend a shorter cable if it is randomly not maintaining a connection like it should. I don't know why my Mac didn't have an issue with it though. Perhaps the driver for the Mac is more stable?

The only true long range wifi adpater
I've bought several of these adapters over the years. This is by far the best one they have came out with. I use a 10 dbi di-pole antenna and I can pick up my internet through dense woods several hundred feet (close to 400ft) away where my house is. Lets me play games and stream videos no problem. Very easy to set up with included driver CD. For long range and performance this is the only adapter I've found to meet my needs. little high speed usb adapters are great for use in your home but this is what you want for long range. Keep in mind your router will affect the performance of this device. If you have a cheap 30 dollar router that can't push the signal through the walls of your home no adapter of any kind will work. Brick and metal roofs or siding will block wifi signal. I would recommend a router with one of more external antennas for the best speed and connection stability.

It is no longer working correctly (8/19/15)
Dead or something because when I try to plug in a 13 dbi yagi, the device just keeps restarting itself (Disabling and enabling in windows)...UPDATE: After a BSOD, A Restart, and 20 minutes of plugging and unplugging, I finally got it to work. This is still not good. I feel like it is defective. I fear that if I shut down my server, or lose power, the device will fail again.Update(Again): I ended up fooling around with the software that came with the device. (Realtek WLAN utility) and ended up closing the app as the device was in the middle of a spasm of malfunctioning and disabling and re-enabling. After I got an additional error saying the device has malfunctioned, I closed the WLAN utility, and unplugged the device. after a few seconds, I plug it back in. The device started WITH OUT ANY PROBLEMS..... Could this be a software issue? if anyone knows for sure, please comment. I added a star since my last review, as the connection is pretty solid for a 0.4 mile distance... Speed is decent and consistent. Despite all the drama with the device failing while the WLAN utility is open, it is okay. Your situation may be different. If you are on windows 7, install the driver and disable the realtek WLAN utility. If it works for you without doing that, Hey... Fantastic.Update (yes.... another one): I finally got pissed off with the power cycling (even with the utility closed) so I did some research.... one of many solutions was to get a double headed usb cord. The extra end can plug into another port on the usb hub, thus giving it more power.... so far everything seems okay. The device has yet to spontaneously combust so I am going to assume the extra power did the trick... I will post another update if something goes wrong....Also I would like to note: THE PRODUCT TITLE IS WRONG. The description describes it as 1500 MW output, which surprisingly enough it is decent for my 0.25 and 0.4 mile setup. However, the title needs to be corrected.Final update: I don't understand what happened but it did. Last week I noticed the signal completely dropped off... I am now stuck with slower than dialup speed and very poor signal (less than 30%). That shouts total device failure to me.... I think I am giving up on the USB WiFi adapters. I'm switching to a much cheaper PCI wireless card.

Windows 8 works perfect
I have the other brand of the same chipset product. For some reason, this one works much better than the other/my old one. It gets me longer range. I use Windows 8 and works perfect.

Perfecto
Con este adaptador, no hay problema para que el wifi llegue hasta la otra punta del piso sin problemas. Antes, con el wifi de serie del portatil, apenas podia conectarme. Buen producto.

WORST
Does not work upon successful installation. After finishing installation and restarting as prompted on the quick-start guide, the software program on desktop (REALTEK USB Wireless LAN Utility) becomes unresponsive after running. The program displays the adapter as disabled, upon unchecking the program becomes unresponsive. Light on the device flashes on and off to signify power and the windows device-is-connecting sound is repeatedly played on and off. The icon for my wireless signal goes from on (not connected) to off. Eventually I get a prompt stating Device is not connect to my computer as it is unrecognizable and has malfunctioned.I've tried all the USB ports on my computer.Troubleshooting is unable to repair the problem, only diagnosis is that the adapter is not working properly. Online troubleshooting does not offer any resolution.I'm unable to tell if this is a software or hardware related problem. Would definitely not recommend purchasing this device.
