Calming effective and fun way to help express feelings for a frustrated child
My daughter has ADHD and the book aims at autism. I find the take the time to stop and think aspect of the book. She never knows when to stop. I have ried mindful yoga, breathing exercises, counting and patience etc but separate she struggles to focus on them all together. I find this book fun and we actually put the book and she stops and thinks about all the aspects, stop, calm, breathe, quiet, think, calm. I say what would buddy say and she responds as she has great imagination. It's a handy helpful tool to add to my words of suggestion. We had someone help with emotional control who suggested a snow globe as emotions, when we are frustrated we are like a shook up snow globe, so we have to wait for the glitter to settle. Along with calming out glitter and buddy the elf's big emotions help, we stop, think and try to assess before we have a larger melt down. On its own it's an insistful story. I like this book as an adult and recommend this. We will be looking into the other stories in this series, mainly learn to share and learn to wait but there is also make new friends in the series.

Important techniques for children to learn
The number of times an autistic child becomes overwhelmed daily depends on the child. Every autistic child is different and the reasons they become overwhelmed are also different. The techniques in this book will be valuable to some. What struck me about the techniques was that they could be used by any child who has a propensity to be upset by loud noises, too many people, or too much activity. Teaching children to self-regulate and recognize situations where they could apply breathing techniques or take themselves out of a situation is very important.

Good coping strategy
Although My son paid full attention to this story and remember it, he is unable to utilise the method yet, am sure it will work for others. One downside I should mention is that he now wants a toy that looks exactly like Bud which does not seem to exist ha.

Really good
My son really responded to this, despite it being an imaginary friend based which I thought my child with autism may struggle with but he’s really got into it. Not quite reflected in his behaviour but he’s been telling me he can do this technique

Can’t wait for more!
This heart warming children's book on autism beautifully promotes empathy and understanding, skillfully imparting essential coping skills. Featuring vibrant illustrations and a relatable storyline, it opens a window into the unique world of individuals with autism, fostering acceptance and celebrating differences. It proved to be an ideal choice for my nephew, who has ADHD and often faces challenges in regulating big emotions. He spent all of Christmas Day practicing and teaching his cousins all about his new “calm down strategies”.As a fellow BCBA, it’s nice to see other BCBAs writing children’s books that are so relatable to our day to day lives. Hope this author has more books on the way :)
