I have a set of 1920s painted, wooden alphabet letters that were my mother's, then mine, and I would like to pass them along to my grandchildren, but not without testing for lead content. Honestly, I ordered a lead testing set from Amazon a full *grandchild* ago, but it was so complicated to use that I didn't trust the results. These swabs are so EASY to use that I *think* I trust the results, which were all NEGATIVE for lead! I only needed 4 of the swabs for the 4 different paint colors of the letters, so I'm packing the remaining 6 swabs with the letters so my daughter can test again for herself.

It worked the first time and right away. I am very pleased with the product.

The product worked as expected. I was concerned about lead paint on my inherited desk, which had been painted over and was chipping, so I had two plants to check. After testing, one swab turned burgundy and brown, indicating a positive result, while the other was negative, yay? I guess.It's very easy to use and is really a great value—affordable and efficient, and peace of mind. I highly recommend it; the quality is good, and the results are under 30 seconds.

These did the trick! I tested my old Franciscan dinnerware and no lead (orange) THEN...I tested the mouthpiece from my great, great grandfathers tin whistle from the Civil War and WHOA!! Bright RED...Lead. No more playing without a shield of some kind.

seem to get false readings from brass and coper

Tried this on surfaces that I know have led paint to test accuracy, and it does not show any reaction at all. Will be returning

I had some old camping mess kit gear from the 1920's and I used the test kit out on it. The solder welds came up as lead. Who knows what would have happened if I just went and cooked food in that thing and never tested the kit.

Easy to use. Very disappointed in the dinky little reagent bottle provided. Especially since you need 5 drops per applicator. Not sure you would have enough if you needed to used all 30 applicator swabs. But I only needed it for one project so I had plenty. My paint tested negative, but I'm so skeptical of the test result since my house was built in 1952 and I think I'm stripping some of the original paint. On the other hand, maybe the test is accurate and I just need to believe the test result.
