Hell Divers VIII: King of the Wastes: Hell Divers Series, Book 8

I have enjoyed Hell Divers so much and appreciate Nicholas Sansbury Smith stories. He keeps me interested the whole time, waiting for the next saga!

I have come to consider Nick Smith my favorite author, and after reading book one of his Hell Divers series, that was it - I was hooked and have been reading everything he's written. What a great concept and basis for a trip into a post apocalyptic future. Fell into a reading slump for too many months, but started reading HD VIII and by the time I got to the end, I was brought back into the fold!!! :-) Typical of Nick's works, do not try to second guess what's going to happen, because you can't, and that is what makes his books so good to me! I will say that when you get toward the end of this one , that putting it down is going to be difficult. A real edge of your seat adventure, and one I highly recommend!!! Now it's on to book IX!!!

This is about the Audible book version:I always like old-technology-rediscovered sci-fi. The story series is very enjoyable, though perhaps a bit predictable. There are a few quirks, though, like apparently naming a character after the book's narrator, R.C. Bray. That alone tells you that the character will never get killed off. There's also a cringe-worthy "jump the shark" moment in the book (ironically almost literal in nature, you'll know it when you get to it). Immersed in the story, it was a bit eye-rolling, enough that I all but blurted out, "ugh, are you effing kidding me?!" I hope that the author resists from such antics further on. Also, the story follows the somewhat-cookie-cutter checklist of the main characters. Still, I'm a sucker for such stories, so I'm sticking with it.

It is difficult for me to believe this is number VIII in this series.. And, even more amazing is that the quality of the writing is getting better with each one.King Xavier proves himself to be an exemplary leader and his qualities shine through in the darkest of moments...With a hurricane approaching and the food supplies dwindling, action must be taken by him...And, does he ever show his leadership skills.So impressed with the plot development(s), the characters that have become friends of ours over a period of time, but most of all, am so pleased that the quality of writing keeps on getting better and better.Hard to believe that this author has so much creativity left in his brain..Just imagine creating new monsters at this stage of this series... Incredible, truly incredible.That is the reason that this author is my favorite one... His descriptions are unparalleled and are in all areas . He has a great capacity for both character and plot analysis in order to keep the reader interested and intrigued.Well done, Mr. Smith, indeed well done.Most highly recommended.

King Xavier and his wonder-dog Miles are the symbols of leadership pulling the expanding population into cooperation. Some old wounds are chafing the disparate groups, but X is working on healing and preparation. The war with the Defectors had been costly, both in terms of lost manpower and valuable supplies used up in the fighting. A new source of resupply is badly needed, and soon! El Pulpo's logs showed that the Cazadores had faced famine and disease from lack of fresh supplies. King Xavier needs food, equipment and replacement parts to keep the rigs running. Some of what they need might be found on the aircraft supercarrier, ITC Ranger, where it drifted after the last machines were dead. El Pulpo's log also hinted at a "Coral Castle" that the Cazadores were seeking for supplies. And, of course, if things weren't bad enough, a huge hurricane is bearing down on the Vanguards.Once again, at long last, our tale continues with the friends we've gotten to know and love returning to carry on the search for life on a destroyed planet. New friends are well met and new enemies lurk just under the surface biding time until they can assert their agendas. The evolving storyline has new twists and turns, keeping the story flow lively, but hiding new and old enemies plotting their own advancement. But the best part? Hell Divers continue to dive so humanity survives!

Loved it and could not put it down! Anyone who loves reading adventure/science fiction or military stories should give these books a try. I can not wait to get to the next one in the series! Amazing Author!

It is amazing how these books just keep getting more intense with every edition. These are definitely worth reading and I’m glad I already have the next one.

Loved this post apocalyptic adventure! Every single one of the Hell Diver books has been as good! Can’t put them down. Narrator in audible versions is great too.

I wish I were kidding but I sat down and read this book in one day! After months of waiting for it to come out and now its done! But the level of emotional investment for me in this series is simply out the roof. As usual, this book follows the usual tried and true Hell Divers formula of facing off against an unbelievable host of horrors and mayhem that both man and nature throw at our team. And yes, "King Xavier the Immortal" plays the central role throughout, a role he is more than adept at even if there is the occasional melancholy that seeps in every so often (we're gettin' old, Miles!). One factor that remains very VERY strong in this book is that there are naturally several intense side adventures that offer glimpses into other aspects of what remains of mankind . There's also enough foreshadowing and setting-up to tease the upcoming book(s) that ANY fan should be satisfied. Bottom-line is that this is great stuff! And I have a feeling even greater stuff is on the horizon! Now begins the painfully long wait until the next chapter is released!

This series just gets better and better! The characters all have personalities and quirks that feel like old friends after eight books, and the storyline’s are fresh and exciting and still leave me wanting more. Bring on book nine.

NSS has given us yet another great installment in the HD book series. New characters and new beasts really made this a great book. Can't wait for HD9!!
