Blew me away the first time I performed with it
I've been playing in an acoustic duo for the last 20 years performing 3-9 times a month. I've always used a Shure SM58 or a Sennheiser wireless mic. Not long ago we played a venue that provided a sound man who told us how he loved this mic over the SM58. While my Shure is working perfectly fine, it is 20 years old so when I saw this mic on sale, I figured I'd give it a try, worst case I have a new back up should something happen to the SM58. Well, I tried it out and I've been blown away by its sensitivity and tonal accuracy. The SM58 immediately became the backup. I find myself singing with a lot more ease and not needing to be as forceful to cut through. What I hear coming back through the monitors (and obviously the mains) is so crisp and clean it's amazing. If you're looking for a mic in the SM58 price range, give this one a try you won't be sorry, in fact, you'll be very pleased!

Buenos

Great microphone
Extremely fine microphone. Great sound, well made. Should hold up to use as it is solid. I scored on the two for one sale. I have replaced my Shure beta 57 and 58's with these. Excellent product.

Four Stars
does what it is supposed to. Sounds a bit warmer, with a bit more presence than the SM58

Beware: sounds good, won't fit all XLR cables...
I got 2 of these mics on a MF, SDOTD sale. When they arrived, I could not snap them into my most convenient XLR cable. They wouldn't fit. They would go in about 1/8 inch, and then get stuck - on both mics. They would not plug in any further. To check it out, I plugged 1) Sure, 2) AKG, 3) Audio Technica, 4) ElectroVoice, and 5) a Radio Shack mics into the same cable. They ALL fit on that XLR cable - no problem. I almost returned them. However, I decided to try 2 other XLR cables (perhaps better made). One of them resulted in a snug, but workable fit. The final one fit like a glove. Once I could connect the mics up properly, they sounded fine (nearly Sure quality), and they appear to be built like tanks. My experience suggests that 1) my "convenient XLR cable has "iffy" tolerances around the XLR socket, AND the Blue Encore 100 ALSO has iffy tolerances around the XLR socket. It seems that: if a well manufactured mic is paired with an "iffy" cable, they will work fine. If an "iffy" microphone is paired with a well manufactured cable, that might also fit fine. However, if you pair an "iffy" cable, with an "iffy" mic, then it may not fit together - not at all. In that last case, you will then pass no signal, and so reap no sound from the mic. I think these are probably pretty good mics, as long as you hook them up to pretty decent XLR cables. - Lesson learned... I was dubious about buying a Blue Microphone in the first place. I was suspect of the quality of quality of manufacture. I'm keeping them, however, I'm mildly annoyed that I will have to be careful about what XLR cable that I pair them with. Slightly more effort in quality control would have prevented this issue.

Worst Customer Service, and no replacement parts
Purchased this mic several years ago. Within a year, even with regular cleaning, the grille became corroded and deteriorated. I didn't fix it at the time, I had other mics to choose from, but always had in mind to purchase a replacement grille. Turns out, they don't have replacement grilles. I have other Blue products, and appreciate the functionality of them, but I won't be purchasing anything else from this company. Why would I, when there's no way to maintain them? Customer service was exceptionally apathetic and condescending. If you're an active musician, stay away.

Wrong mic sent, so review is for the 100i
Just a heads up that, seller dependent, you may receive the 100i instead, which is technically a different microphone (instrument rather than vocal). But, I had also bought the 200 so I just put one of the capsule cages from that on the 100i and tried it today. In terms of construction, it’s well built and feels solid. In terms of tone, it’s very warm for vocals and needs a little EQ to drop the low end and boost the high a bit. But, after that was done, it sounded really great. Can’t compare it to the 100 as I’ve never tried that, but I can compare it to the 200 (perhaps apples to oranges) - once it was eq’d the 100i with the different cage sounded comparable to the 200 - not as much sparkle in the highs, but perhaps a little more body and with the potential to be an excellent option, especially when phantom power isn’t available.
