I always buy one size bigger for costumes because you can pin them. For my 8 year old I bought this costume large even though she is medium. It fit her perfectly

I currwntly have the large and x large !! Both are huge ... I have a six year old that is about the same size maybe little bigger. I really think she would fit into the small! Hope this helps. I will be returning soon!
