American black walnuts have an entirely different and very strong aroma than the typical English walnuts. I bought them specifically because I have fond memories of my grandpa cracking black walnuts in his workshop, and the whole room would fill with the scent. I'm fairly certain that there is nothing wrong with your bag of walnuts, but everyone has a personal preference of course, and the flavor is different too, just like the smell. What I can tell you is that the flavor is stronger than regular walnuts, so they made a couple of delicious walnut cakes, and this company doesn't process any other kind of nut, so people with allergies to other nuts can safely enjoy these.
