Heavy well-made product that makes short work of a potato.
The media could not be loaded. When I was young, I used to spend a lot of time at my older brother's house on the weekends. Some of my fondest memories were having lunch at his house where he made hand cut French fries for lunch. So, when I saw the device, I had to place my order. The images on the website, show a pretty robust device featuring thick metal plates, polished metal rods and a long-threaded lead screw. So, my expectations were high as I opened the box. I wasn't disappointed. The device weights 5.16 lbs./2342.4 g and is 10" L x 4 1/2" W x 5 1/2" T (including the suction legs). There are 3 metal plates used in the design all made from finely machined and finished solid aluminum. The front and rear plates are 1/4" thick, while the moving pressure plate is a little over 3/8".As you can see from my images, the French Fry maker is made from high quality materials and the construction definitely has an industrial look to it.5/8” dia. Lead screw, with HD rotating and removable handles3/8” dia. round side railsPressed in greased bushings on the moving pressure plate.Large support roller bearings at both ends of the lead screw.Removable plastic pushing plates and steel cutters. The 2 cutters (3/8” and ½” square) are held in place and aligned using 2 stainless steel posts on each side and a wing nut at the top.A stainless-steel drip plate under the full length of the device.Suction support feet to keep the device in place as you turn the lead screw.I have a have a background involving the use of many types of production equipment – mainly in small shops - and I was pretty impressed with this manually operated machine. In operation the lead screw moves very smoothly and the fine threads on the screw will exert great pressure. The machine is built to support this type of pressure over the long-term making French frys without damaging itself. Note: good instructions are included. The French fry press meets the descriptions and images shown on the website. I’m very satisfied with the product I received. It has a great engineering design and is manufacture to high quality standards using first class materials. On the negative side it is not the fastest at making fries, but this product was conceived as a small compact device for home use and storage. I think it succeeds here in this device. I would recommend it.

Good Quality - Hard Work to Use!
If you’re looking for a good way to cut French fries and workout at the same time this is for you!I’ve had 3 other French fry cutters and this is by far the best quality. It is solid. I have no fear of it breaking when I use it- two of my cutters have broken. It is a very solid and heavy piece of equipment. The problem is the amount of work to cut a potato. You have to open the vice like contraption by turning the knob. I looked and did not see a quick release mechanism. This takes a long time and because it’s not an ergonomic handle it’s hard work and nit comfortable. . Once it’s open wide enough and the potato with ends sliced is in the cutter, you then have to do the opposite motion to cut the fries. I cut two potatoes to test it out and I seriously built up a sweat! Later that day my arm and wrist were actually sore.It cuts nice even fries, great for the air fryer, however I’m not sure it’s worth the amount of time it took me. It’s possible it needs to be oiled and then it will be easier. If so, I’ll change my rating. So while, as I said, this is by far the best quality of all the French fry cutters I have had, I think I might just use a knife instead.

Excellent french fry maker
The product is constructed very well. It is engineered from stainless steel as well as other alloys. The frame of the French fry maker is very, very sturdy. Seldom do you receive a machined metal product. Today everything seems to be made from plastic with possibly some bits of metal. The drive screw is extremely solid and does not deflect while pushing the potato into the cutting grate. It has two steel grates. One has a smaller cube than the other. The smaller grate (not julienne size but larger) produces smaller fries that will cook more quickly. The larger grate makes a traditional size fry. The grates are easily changed with the turn of a thumbscrew. It has rubber suction feet. The feet keep it from lifting upward. But as with any suction cup, it can slide slightly. With a hand on the opposite end of the crank, that will not be a problem. It's easily washed in the dishwasher. I'm satisfied.

cuts great fries however....
I like that the potatoes come out perfect for fries, but it is a MAJOR pain to cleanfirst the only instructions are basically 'put the potato in the cutter and turn handle. do not cut yourself'at first glance that seemed to be enough, until I tried to clean it. The cutter is sturdy, metal and extremely hard to remove (having cut myself on a similar blade on a different tool I was very reluctant to handle it). I had to force it out of the machine. the pusher plate was not oblivious as how to get tit out..No instructions, after washing them I had to use a hammer to get the cutter back into the machine.I would not recommend this to anyone that plans on using it a lot.

Even So it is Faster
Frying potatoes is a favorite around here. Walk fry over gas or deep fry over induction burner . Cutting potatoes is the start of things and this device reduces the energy input to do that. Cutting by hand uses various amounts of time and energy depending on blade design. Yes some blades are better than others. But in all cases there is no dedicated blade. The blade clean and available is the one. Using this screw powered cutter reduced the total time and produces better fries as the uniform shapes make for uniform frying and a consistently better flavor results. Washing is not issue to discuss the open construction and stainless steel rule for cleaning. Even for my home use this cut the effort and wear on my old and always hot hands.
