A great buy
This works great! Following another reviewer's advice, I washed the mesh and tray, dried them, turned it on for 10 minutes, then washed and dried them again. There was no smoke.I've cooked a couple of steaks with the mesh on the lower level. First I smeared a paper towel with peanut oil and wiped both sides of the mesh. After a 5 minute warm-up, I cooked two inch-thick steaks for 6 minutes on one side and 4 minutes on the other. The surface was brown and the inside was rare. Very tasty! There was no smoke during the cooking.I sprayed the tray and mesh with a mixture of soap and water and left them in the sink, since I do dishes in the morning. Cleanup was easy with a non-abrasive pad followed by using a "wand" that's filled with soap and water and has a non-abrasive surface. The English in the instructions may not be the greatest, but they aren't kidding when they say they take pride in the product. I'm very glad I bought it.

After a Year of Use
I've owned this product for over 6 months and it is my favorite kitchen appliance. There truly is no other way to cook most meats. Only warning is if you are in a small apartment make sure your exhaust fan works. Otherwise the place will smell like you were grilling. So far its pretty much as described by other reviewers in terms of quality of grilling achievable. Mostly I grill poultry, lamb and goat meat and all have come out great. Unfortunately I haven't had much success with fish, not because of the grill, but rather my skills at grilling fish leaves something to be desired.Update: I bought this item on December 9, 2014. Used it at least once a week for a year. That is, until it broke. Unfortunately in just less than the year mark my grill suffered from an electrical issue. While plugged into the electric outlet it did not come on. I contacted Livart and they seem to know the problem and offered to replace it if still under warranty or sell me another one at a discount. I will take them at their offer because the Livart grill is my favorite kitchen appliance. BTW watch your electrical bill, mine spiked dramatically. Perhaps this is why I haven't rushed to replace my grill.

Really nice smokeless indoor grill for Yakatori cooking.
This is really nice and compact grill, If this is big size then i wonder how much smaller the non deluxe version is. Anyways here is my review after using it 1-2 times.Very easy to setup, very little to no smoke, Decent heat (not super hot, wish it was little it hotter), the heating element is on 3/4 part of the grill so there are spots which are not so hot, which may be desirable to move cooked food to that area. Cleaning was easy, have to put the still grid in hot water for 15 minutes and with light scrubbing everything came out. One small note is that if you are cooking for longer time, please remember to keep pouring more water in the bottom pan.I grilled chicken, mushrooms, tofu. All came out really nice and juicy. My daughter had a few skewers (who does not eat much) so that is a good sign.

Better suited for lightly toasting bread than grilling vegees
Does not get hot enough to really cook on. Better suited for lightly toasting bread than grilling vegees.

It delivers the outdoor grilled flavor indoors...
Yakiniku = (Yakitori - Skewers), so I mainly use it Yakiniku cooking which is largely comprised of smaller/thinner slices of beef or pork, and smaller Japanese sausages. I use four types of seasoning salt, pepper, soy sauce and honey (simple enough). I mix the soy sauce with the honey and brush it on the thin slices of pork and beef. I also brush the shiitake mushrooms and shishito peppers with it. I use a pinch of salt and pepper as needed on the meats. I serve it with rice and my teenage son loves it. He plays basketball and it gives him the energy he needs to play double header early morning games on the weekend before any decent restaurant is open. No you’re not going to sear hamburger patties and steaks with it I don't think it has the heat intensity to do that, it’s probably not meant for that...you can cook it on it but it’ll take a while. I once used thin slices of chicken with it but be sure to remove the skin (there goes the flavor I know but if you’re up to the challenge of cleaning it go ahead keep it on) otherwise it’ll stick on the grill and it’ll be a chore to clean it. Overall, I’m satisfied with what I cook on it. It’s delivers the outdoor grilled flavor indoors even for a narrow spectrum on what you can cook on it.

Best appliance I've ever purchased!
This lil gem is perfect for me and my lifestyle. I live in a small beach town in a tiny house with virtually zero counter space. In the summer I feel cooking is limited in my tiny home due to my gas stove that runs with a pilot light, so it's always retaining heat even when not in use. So, this summer I decided to turn the propane nobs off and try something different. The summer months are monsoon/hurricane season which ruins BBQ's.After reading many indoor grill reviews I decided to purchase the bigger unit (this one) over the Orange model. Item arrived quickly and in working condition. I have made chicken satay, salmon burgers, grilled squash, sausages, burgers, grilled peaches and even pita pizza on this wonderful grill! I've noticed it only smokes when oil gets on the heating elements. This model will be maxed out at 2 hamburger patties along with 2 sets of buns. I usually cook more chicken, fish and veggies over hotdogs or hamburgers. I can fit 4 tilapia fillets or chicken satays with majority of the grill with veggies and it's enough food for my husband and I. I am very happy with my new indoor electric grill from Livart. I have told single active duty military friends about my positive experience with this product whom relocate often. Hopefully, this review is helpful to those looking for a excellent quality portable grill.

Just OK.
Makes toooo much smoke. Stinks up the house even when we are running the exhaust fan.Doesn't heat evenly.Cooking is slow. if you are looking for George Foreman speed, look elsewhere. Helps a bit if you 'tent' it with Aluminum foil.
