Certainly Not a step by step for drawing cars
Having read other in depth reviews here and on other websites, I really thought I'd finally found a one stop shop for learning to draw and render cars 'from scratch'. I waited in anticipation for this new 2nd edition released in Aug. 2017 and was very excited when it arrived.... However, I am left very disappointed, despite the fact that I got this book for 'only' £15.The basics of drawing cars - perspective, angles, viewpoints, complex shape construction etc. are dealt with in a couple of vague paragraphs and little to no application/ example of how use the techniques is given. While there are some okay 'step by step' sections for rendering (couloring/ shading), I'm not exaggerating when I say the SKETCHING examples are beyond poor. They are Certainly Not step by step. I could imagine internet memes being created to highlight this point... Step 1 = draw a cool car. ( What?? If I could already, I would!!!) Step 2,3,4,5,6,7 = render it.I'm genuinely disappointed having to write this review as I love design and particularly car design. However, this book is marketed/ advertised incorrectly and so I don't want some other person being let down by a false promise.Don't misunderstand me, many of the illustrations, sketches and renderings are beautiful and the author is no doubt talented. Thus, if you want a book, (a thin book, approx 100 content pages) , that has some inspirational art and a few tips and vague 'step by step' pieces on rendering, then this book is okay- but again, it is Not a book that teaches, explains, highlights nor advises on the intricacies of creating beautiful concept car drawings. Oh and I'd still say that even for inspiration, it's not worth full price, get it cheap or just look up inspiring images on the internet for free.

Inspiring fun with car design
When I got the book I wasn't quite sure I had bought what I was looking for as this is not a strictly how to draw book. It did give me the inspiration to think in a free way about my approach to drawing cars. The only draw back people may find is that there is a fair amount of reference to using Adobe Photoshop and a sketching software; OK if you have these bits of kit but could be frustrating if you haven't. If you are serious about car illustration you could well need to invest in computers and the mentioned software anyway.

Concept's for the future
After seeing videos on the internet of people drawing and creating concept cars, I wanted to be one of those people. I wanted to be able to produce top quality designs that they were producing for myself. Looking around book shops and the internet for a book that would teach you from scratch was proving difficult. Thats what brought me to Amazon.co.uk and there is where I found this book. It had everything that I was looking for which were step by step guides in drawing concept cars for yourself. It showed me perspective and colour/shading to get the best quality out of your own designs. Another good point about this particular book was that it gave you examples of others work which gave me and hopefully others the inspiration to keep going. Once I had recieved the book I was straight into reading it and straight after came the pencil and paper. So far I am developing a idea that I have and learning new skills from this book in my free time. I would recommend this book because of what it has to offer for those people that want to learn how to do this style of drawing. It is easy to follow and gives the reader a friendly atmosphere in the way that it has been written.
