Review: Invest in quality - Davis Instruments is the premier consumer weather station brand. If you are serious about accurate weather conditions, but cannot afford the Vantage Pro2, this is the next-best thing. My previous station was a LaCrosse 2813 model. For an $80 station, it put out very good numbers, but I did the best I could to make it as accurate as possible. With three separate sensors, you could site accordingly (wind on the roof, temperature in a radiation shield on the north part of the property, and rain bucket on the fence). You do not have this luxury with the Vantage Vue, as it is an all-in-one unit, but since installing, I have noticed that the numbers are very good. In fact, there is a Vantage Pro2 station within a mile from my home, and I am always comparing my numbers to that station. The temperature is always within a degree. The rain data is usually exact or within .01-02." The wind is usually within 2-3 MPH (usually less), but it is subjective to where you are able to mount your instrument. I have mine on a mast, attached to my wood-framed chimney. My neighbor has a two-story home, so wind from the northwest may not be as accurate as it could because of this. In a tract neighborhood, you will have to make some compromises. The National Weather Service states that an anemometer should be 33 feet above ground in open space, but a temperature gauge should be 4-6 feet above ground, with grass below or another natural landscape. So, you have to pick and choose here. You do not need a console to stream your data online, but you will need to purchase the Wireless Weather Envoy 6316 separately to make this happen. I just happened to find a vendor who was trying to get rid of their consoles for a deeply discounted price, which is why I bought this separately. I do not own a wireless data device, so I cannot speak from experience. I am looking forward to years of reliability and accuracy from this station.
Review: Very good all-in-one station. - I've had Davis and other stations over the years and always come back to Davis. This unit is very well made, easy to set up, easy to maintain like cleaning the rain sensor etc. The wireless connectivity is excellent and the update frequency is 3-4 seconds which I love for wind speed and direction. I paired this station with the VantagePro2 base for larger display plus added web access. This gives me access to all that I need from anywhere, very happy. My only suggestion for improvement is bird perching prevention. I checked the station after 4 weeks up on the roof, the rain collector bucket was about 1/2 full of bird droppings! Fortunately the unit is easy to clean. After cleaning up, I made up a "Crown of thorns" for the rain collector bucket. I purchased a stainless steel band hose clamp 5-7" size from Home Depot, I cut 2" lengths if 1/16" carbon fiber rods and hot glued them at 1" spacing around the inside the band. I used a dremmel tool to trim off the excess band (the bucket is about 5 1/2" dia with the rods in place), and cut a notch in the band to allow it to slip over the bucket lip. Once tightened, the band holds the rods nicely and should weather for many years outdoors. The higher end Davis station has this type protection and now mine is bird proof as well. Davis should make a slip-on crown as a standard feature as this station is a natural bird perch. Edit, after many weeks a quick check shows zero debris in the rain cup, the anti-bird prongs are working perfectly!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: My Davis Vantage VUE ISS needs a repair in the $100 range. Thinking of this new unit instead. Will this new unit auto-link w/ existing VV monitor?**
A: Depending on the nature of the repairs needed, I agree that purchase of a new unit is the best way to go. I recently had a mishap with mine while trying to take it down for maintenance which resulted in damage to the ISS which possibly could have been repaired but I don't think it would have ever regained the same level of weatherproofing as it had when it was new and pre-damage. If you purchase a new ISS, it will come with an installation manual which outlines (on page 5), the procedure for changing the Transmitter ID. However you should not have to do this since it is set to "1" by default, which is probably what your damaged ISS was set to, and also what your console is set to receive. In my case all I did was disable my damaged ISS by removing the battery and waiting for a while (there must be an internal capacitor that the solar panel charges), since even in it's damaged state it was still transmitting to the console. When I got my new ISS, it was configured for Transmitter ID "1" by default, and so my Vantage VUE console started receiving data from it right away. But again when you get the new ISS, if you find that you need or want to change the transmitter ID, you can using the procedure in the installation manual. All of these docs are also available on Davis's website in PDF form, by the way. Hope this helps and good luck!

**Q: How much does the sensor suite weight?**
A: The product description says the shipping weight is 4.5 pounds. I would guess the unit itself is somewhere between 2 and 3 pounds. Another answer sent to you says they have it mounted on a 3/4 inch metal pole and has withstood 66 MPH winds with no problems.

**Q: Is it already calculated and ready to go for my console.**
A: I think you mean calibrated - yes, provided you have the console that is compatible with it. The other two answers will also helpful to you. BTW, my neighbor about 100 yards away has the same Vantage transmitter and VUE receiver. He had to take his down when he had his roof replaced. He has not put it back up because he is getting readings from mine - LOL!

**Q: I bought my dad this for Christmas. Is it supposed to have the monitor screen with it, or does that come seprate?**
A: We already had a Pro-vantage console and just bought this suite of sensors. if you don't have the monitor, you will need to get the transformer wireless or cable version of the transmitter 6316 plus the software (sold separately) to use it on your computer (http://www.amazon.com/Davis-Instruments-Weather-wireless-version/dp/B00106UDTQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1419637033&sr=8-1&keywords=davis+instruments+6316). To get the suite of sensors with the console (monitor) you can return what you bought to Amazon and order the Davis #6250 (http://www.amazon.com/Davis-Instruments-6250-Vantage-Wireless/dp/B002LLVFK0) or, you can order the monitor separately http://www.amazon.com/Davis-Instruments-Vantage-Console-Receiver/dp/B002OBHSJO/ref=pd_sim_sg_4?ie=UTF8&refRID=1D5ZH6EW5H0V758BCFV2. Hope this helps.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Vantage Vue Davis Instruments
*by A***K on February 7, 2026*

Quality instruments, clear installation instructions, easy sync to wifi, excellent phone app with good data retrieval. The app is free with subscription upgrades and so far I haven’t choose to do so. pay particular attention to mounting locations and follow directions. I recommend rigid threaded 1-1/2” pipe mounted to a threaded pipe flange anchored to concrete with sleeve anchors. Mounted the pole next to a metal corner post and used two stainless pipe clamps to stabilize the pole top of fence. Put a level on it and ensure your plumb. If needed shim with stainless washers prior to anchoring. Please note this weather station does not come with monitor sold separately.
