S&B Golden Curry Mix Flakes 1 Kg | Heat and Eat Japanese Curry Mix

I used to buy this sauce mix years ago in the smaller, single-meal packages. In the small package, the sauce is a block poured into a plastic tray. There's a lot of "puff space" in the packaging, and buying a number of meals' worth takes up a lot of storage space at a high per-ounce cost.When I saw I could get this product in a bulk, flake form, I jumped at it. Note that the smaller packages are graded by "heat" level -- this product appears to be the "mild" version, though it does not specify. One kilogram package will make 50 servings. A two pack is about the cost of 15 single-meal packages. We got three servings from a single batch, and I used only a quarter-cup of the product. I think, honestly, it's more than 50 servings in that bag. The economy of getting the bulk package seems to be good; I repackaged it in a ziplock bag in the fridge, so it should keep its strength a long time.The only odd thing is, even though it's called "flake" form, it's more like little nuggets or chunks. There's nothing really flaky about it. That doesn't affect how well it works, though. It has spice and roux in one product, flavoring and thickening the sauce easily and quickly.It'll be a while before I'm out of this product, but when I'm out, I'll definitely order it again. I highly recommend this product.

S & B Golden curry has long been a family favorite here. The local grocer no longer stocks the 240g package, and the 100g package has gone up in price, so I searched Amazon for a better deal. As the other review stated, this is the mild version of the sauce. The consistency is not what I'd call "flake", but it's close enough. It's mostly powder, but if you've cooked Golden Curry before you know it's a sticky stuff and it forms little pieces in the bag. It melted down to sauce very quickly in this form. Weigh the product out for your recipe. If you're used to the smaller packages, it's 3.5oz/100g. The larger package is 240g. I typically use a good deal less meat than the recipe calls for and more vegetables. An excellent purchase!
