A great upgrade from the Progress 500 I had.
My Mercur Progress 500 had corroded to the point that it could not hold a blade at settings above 1. The packaging on the Pearl Flexi Black edition was a great first impression of the quality and when I picked it up, I knew why reviewers said it was on the heavy side. I enjoyed my first shave with it with Feather blades. I started with the 1 setting and then moved to 2. My impression is that there is a big difference between 1 and 2 that would be more like a 4 on the Progress 500 I had.The included base feels very solid with the razor in it and I'm not worried about it falling over.I really like having the adjustment as a separate dial so that I don't have to find the alignment marks every time I change the blade like on the Progress.

Heavy, smooth, great machining! 🪒
All I can say is WOW! The razor is hefty and has a great finish and machining. I unpacked it from its case and tossed a wizamet super iridium blade in and checked the evenness of the blade gap and it was perfect all the way from setting 1 to 6. (I know some YouTubers and early customers had blade gap problems) The adjustment knob lines up exactly with the 1 and 6 markings. I started my shave with a full short beard (not stubble) at setting 6 and it just cut through my hair like butter. It was incredibly smooth at it's highest setting and I didn't get any irritation or cuts, which surprised me because of YouTube reviews saying it was very aggressive. I then turned down to setting 2 or three for an against the grain pass and again it was very smooth and efficient. I am very happy with this razor and I'll probably never have to buy another razor again if I take care of it. I was a bit reluctant to buy it initially because of the problems people had with it when it first came out. I don't know if I just happened to get a good one or if Pearl upped their quality control but the razor I received is wonderful. P.S make sure to register your warranty in case anything does happen.

Excellent Shave.
This razor is an excellent product and gives a great shave. I have had this razor for several weeks now and utilized various blades in it with great results. Some say this is comparable to the Rex Ambassador but at a lower price and I couldn't agree more. I will be purchasing the standard stainless version now that I have tje black edition. Thanks Pearl Shaving for an excellent product at an affordable price.
