Is a light supposed to be in the battery socket? There is nothing but a hole to put the batteries. What makes the light?

Shane - there is a light at the other end of the battery chamber - on the top of the ball holder- the part where the ball sits on. There is little round circle - that is the light. Turn it over to access the bottom side where you put the batteries. Open that put the batteries in the chamber and screw the battery chamber lid back on. Turn it back over and the light should be on.

I got this as a gift, and the love it, but nothing we do will make the base work. Is there a trick?

Make sure baterry compartment is closed and that battery is in the right direction. Screw down the button. Mine worked great.

What happens when you get the globe and the light doesn't turn on? I've tried everything

The light in the base on these is useless. It runs on button batteries, & when I got it, I replaced the batteries, because the light was really dim & would fade away if I left it on for any length of time. After I replaced the batteries, nothing changed. I would recommend getting a different base, preferably one that you can plug into a USB or wall outlet. I loved the globe, but the base that comes with it is just awful.

I just got this but I can't get the light to work. I tried the battery both ways and screwed it in all the way. Not sure what else to do?

I found that I had to unscrew it just a little.
