It is activated on vibration. This means that if you bump the table it's on it activates the switch. In my daughters room we have it setting on shelf built onto her bunk bed. It will sometimes turn off with just her turning over in bed. This is the only reason I won't give the product 5 stars. It's just too sensitive to vibration. On the other hand it can be tricky to turn on if you just touch it with your hand you have to literally tap on it. I would say if you have a place that isn't going to get bumped to place it, it's a great little lamp for the money if not I would find a different one. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Color changing touch night light *by S***5 on Reviewed in the United States on December 29, 2018* This touch color changing light is awesome! Great for a kids room so they won’t be scared of the dark. Great for a bedside table so if you have to use the bathroom at night you don’t have to turn your overhead light on to see where you are going. Doing that can stimulate you too much making it difficult to get back to sleep.
