Very happy with our radios - using them between camp, utv riders on rides. Programming with Chirp is easy and can support frequencies for 2 watt walkie talkie, 5 watt gmrs & 10 watt ham radio. It can also be programmed to talk with the Ru.gg.ed brand. Once Chirp (free) is going & you upload the frequencies you want then it literally is 2 minutes to program this radio. It is up to you on yhe level of use & licenses you choose to utilize.For distance - on GMRS 5W band - flat ground to flat ground tested (inside houses) was about 4 straight miles. Mtn top to ground most we tested is about 15 miles and was ceystal clear.

Warning, if you do not have a HAM radio license, be very careful!I wanted to get a walkie-talkie set that can also tune into different CB radio channels, like the NOAA channel, incase an emergency came up.The product comes everything you need to get set up, and more. Between different antenna lengths, to belt clips, handsets, charging bases, etc. This comes with everything. Not just physically, but the features themselves. It has basically everything you can think of. They even support CHIRP, which allows you to program in your settings using your PC.This thing has so many features, it'll take a long time to know everything that it does. Example, holding the number 0, will quick tune you to to the NOAA signal. I do wish setting up a FRS (Family Radio Service) channel was easier. I don't have a HAM license, so I can't talk on any non-public channels, despite the device basically not giving you any guardrails for it. If they listed what channels were FRS ready, or you could scan to an open FRS channel, that would be awesome. But going through that process manually has helped me learn a lot about this.In terms of range, I haven't hit the limit, but it's definitely in the "miles" category. Signal is clear (and can be made more clear with the extremely long antennae provided). This is also built extremely dense and solid. I have no concerns about it breaking if I were to drop it. It's standby battery life is also great, but is enhanced by it's ability to be fast charged via your phone's USB-C charger.I'm glad I discovered this brand / product. They did not disappoint.

A few notes about this radio: I have other Baofeng radios, and the 5RM does not receive as well as my UV-82HP, even when using an identical antenna. They are about the same as my UV-5R. Transmit power seems about the same as the UV-82HP. Note that I didn't do any scientific tests -- I just tried to receive and transmit to my local repeater. I had to hold the 5RM in my hand to receive clearly, while the 82HP received everything just standing on the table.Also, while you can use this radio while it is being charged via USB-C, the connected cable seems to act like an incorrectly-tuned antenna. Therefore your ability to transmit or receive while charging is greatly limited.To use this radio with the programming cable, I did need to install the provided driver from the CD. The previous driver for my other radios did not work for this one. It must have a different serial chip. I don't know what you're supposed to do if you don't have an optical drive -- perhaps get it from the Baofeng website? Anyway, it works fine with CHIRP once you have the driver installed, even if the CHIRP driver is in beta.

Works great. Came exactly as advertised. I've had a few other brands and this one has quite a few cool features. Theres a button to tap onto the radio stations quick too. Can listen to music and communicate clearly.

these are exactly what they're supposed to be. The kits come with a bunch of good gear, charging bases larger antennas and so forth.They are really really difficult to learn how to use so buy a manual to teach yourself how to do it, and plan on getting an FCC ham license.

I own at least 20+ radios from Baofeng, and I co tinue to be a long term supporter of this company. No need for the fancy several hundred dollar desk radios. Great entry level radio.
