Seal (2CD + Blu-ray Deluxe Edition)

On the negative side it is overpriced for a three fold standard size cardboard release. The remastering is noticeable but weak. The additional related material from the Seal 2 sessions is well worth having. Prayer for the dying instrumental and 2 mixes of it are not included. The artwork and linear notes are good. £37-99 is too much to charge for the audio and illustrative content. Should have been £27-99 at the most. Shame the vinyl was not added to create a box set the same as Seal 1. Definitely worth buying if you are an avid follower of Seal.

ATMOS and 5.1!!!! and stereo sounding excellent! Essential Seal.

Dies ist wirklich eine meiner Lieblingsscheiben, die ich damals, Mitte der 90er in den USA gekauft habe und werde nie vergessen, wie ich die mit einem Discman am Pool vom Hotel gehört habe.Der Wahnsinn das Album und es erreichte für mich eine exzellente Integration der Instrumente und Seals Stimme in einen Flow mit richtig viel Bass. Für mich ein Meilenstein der Musik und Seal hat dafür auch verdienterweise viele Preise bekommen.Alles toll und ich habe mir über die drei Jahrzehnte, die es sie gibt, immer wieder die Originalscheibe angehört und war wie verzaubert von dem Sound.Also, hatte ich hohe Erwartungen an eine Remastered-Version - aber wieso eigentlich remastered? Das Original fand ich immer schon perfekt. Tja, nun, das Remaster finde ich auch etwas enttäuschend, denn es fehlt die Integration der einzelnen Instrumente und der Stimme wie in einen Klangkörper. Der Remix hört sich 'diskreter' an. Es fehlt mir die Tiefe und der 'Flow', der im Original so unnachahmlich war, außerdem fehlen auch die Bässe. Der Originalmix aus den 90ern ist hier auch nicht dabei.Es gibt frei Disks mit dem Remaster, die zweite Disk 'Rarieties' mit alternativen Versionen der Original-Stücke und vier neuen Stücken, wie 'Manic Depression', 'Blues in E' oder 'The Wind Cries Mary'. Die dritte Scheibe ist eine Blu-Ray mit dem Atmos Mix und einem Hi-Res Stereo Mix in DTS HD MA.Aber was für ein Atmos Mix ist das denn? Ich bin von Yello und ihrer letzten Atmos Scheibe 'Point' wohl etwas zu verwöhnt. Das hört sich an wie der Stereo-Mix mit zusätzlichen Atmos Spuren, die aber mehr oder weniger zur Atmosphäre beitragen als selber eine Rolle zu spielen, wie z.B. bei Point. Da ich an meinem Prozessor jede einzelne Spur in einem VU-Display sehen kann, kann man klar sehen, das zwei im Verhältnis lautere Stereospuren mit sehr viel leiseren Atmos und Surround Spuren da drauf sind.Na ja, was soll ich sagen, bin etwas enttäuscht. Wer so einen Atmos Track wie bei Yello Point erwartet, wird hier enttäuscht sein. Schade.

Seal's second album is a near-masterpiece thanks to his voice & lyrics and Trevor Horn's always-sublime production. Joni Mitchell's guest appearance on 'If I Could' has always been special. And now this remastering is a bonus, along with a blu-ray audio disc! The 2nd disc has some great bonus tracks that were B-sides. Then there are the alternate versions of the album that are interesting, often more acoustic-sounding; I wish they'd included some classic remixes instead.
