Hard to fit sandwiches
I am reviewing a leakproof 1550ml Bento box with six compartments. The claim to be leakproof does seem to be true, as long as you put the two layers and lid the correct way around so that the silicone seals line up with the right compartments. I tested this claim by filling one compartment in turn with water, closing the box up, and then shaking it to see if the water either leaked out of one compartment to another, or out of the box, and it did not.I like the idea of the various different sized compartments in one box, as I usually use three different ones – one with a sandwich, one with salad and one with savoury snacks - but in practice the compartment sizes didn’t work for me. The biggest problem was how to fit a whole sandwich, which is surely a lunchtime staple for most people. I tried putting two halves of sandwich - thin slices of cheese between normal sized medium sliced bread - on top of each other in the bottom half, but these were too tall for the box to close, and they did not fit in any of the other compartments. On the product page there is a photoshopped image showing four pieces of sandwich in one of the top compartments, but this would only work if you cut four fingers out of either a very small loaf of bread, or a standard sized loaf with the crusts cut off.In the top, I found having two very small compartments, and two medium ones, was too many, once I’d put a few nuts in one of the small ones I was stuck for what to fit in the other as it was too small for most things – in the end I squeezed in five small grapes. I feel it would have been better if the top was a full-sized compartment with a movable partition so you can adjust it to fit a sandwich no matter what size your bread is, and the bottom then held the cutlery and 2 or 3 other fixed compartments.Even with the box assembled in the right order, I found it quite hard to close the clips and to open them again, and my eight-year-old could not manage it at all so I do not feel it is ideal for school lunches. The current price of £14.99 also feels a little too high for a non-insulated lunchbox.I wouldn’t personally recommend this lunchbox, but some people may find it works for them.

Make Sure To Put The Lid On The Right Way Round
I ordered the Bento Lunchbox 1550 ml. This is a large 2 tier lunchbox in green. It is well made and sturdy. Inside is a white fork and spoon. The spoon has a square design which works well to get into the corners of the box. There is a tiny container which could be used for ketchup etc. The bottom tier has a sliding removable divider so you could have a large compartment or 2 smaller ones, but it will not be leakproof between these 2 sections. The whole thing has been in the dishwasher a few times now and has come out fine. You need to be careful putting the box together, make sure that the top tier of the box is the right way round to match the compartments below and the same for the lid. If you get them the wrong way around, it will leak. When put together correctly it hasn’t leaked, but I would still be careful with very liquid food. Overall I would definitely recommend this lunchbox, not just for children but it would also be fine for adults to take to work. It has plenty of room for a good sized lunch.
