The Second Spy: The Books of Elsewhere: Volume 3

Grabs your imagination and doesn't let go!
My daughter (almost 10) *adores* these books--this being the best and most suspenseful one yet! Until now, she has been an indifferent reader, but these books have caused her to read, *read*, and *READ*! I have read them as well, and quite enjoy the series. We are both anxiously awaiting news of a sequel! My daughter is so enchanted by the vividly drawn characters and situations that she is working like mad on plans for a movie (she intends to play Olive, the heroine ;), to include numerous lists (props, casting, costumes, etc.) and a "screenplay". She has not yet, however, come to grips with how to film crawling into a painting and other significant practicalities . . . ;) My son (12) has also read the books and enjoyed them, which is pretty impressive since, although he loves to read, he is not fond of reading books written from the viewpoint of a female. So this book (and its precursors) win the "family favorite" category!

Great series for girls
My daughter was 6 when I first started reading this series to her. She may have been a bit too young when we started and some of the situations scared her a little. So I edited them on the fly as I read. But the story is a page turner and it was hard to find a place to stop reading each night. Olive is a strong and positive role model. She has a sense of adventure and usually ends up doing he right thing... after a few detours. Her mischief sparked a few fun discussions.I have found it hard to find good books for my daughter that are not princess or boyfriend focused but this one is definitely a winner.Highly recommended.

great children's story!
Just wonderful! I found book 2 in a discount store and before then had never heard of the 'books of elsewhere'. Boy am I glad I picked it up! When I realized I needed to read book one, i came here to search and found them! After reading all three I was surprised (and a bit let down/anxious) that there wasn't a book four until i came back to the author's page. Book four is nearly here!!! Hooray! These stories are unique, clever, fun and just plain-ol-fashioned good reading. It will delight young readers for years to come!

Who says these are kids books?
On a whim I bought Book 1 at a used bookstore and enjoyed it a lot and have now read the first four. I know the Books of Elsewhere series are kids books but I bought the rest just for me. Per all the reviews it would appear a number of adults are reading this series. A very good story that moves along well. Good, easy, escapist reading. Eagerly awaiting book five to become available in paperback.

Excellent Story
I purchased the Elsewhere books for my niece beginning with the first one on her 11th birthday. She has impatiently waited for each new installment to arrive in her mail box. She loves them and devours each one as soon as she gets it. I have the last of the 5 book set ready for her 12th birthday and she can't wait to get her hands on it! Gotta love a book that makes a kid love reading!

A series that can interest a 10 year old and even a 45 year old.
Great book, interesting to read the continuing saga and find out what happens next. It is worth having the complete series. We read them again and again.

Delightful!
This entire series is enjoyable. I read the first of the series, as it is being considered for the Illinois Bluestem Book Award for grades 3-5. As an elementary school librarian, I found the first book so fun that I had to read the second and third books in the series. The fourth book in the series comes out this summer, and I will be reading it the day it hits the shelves!
