The Strangers: The Books of Elsewhere: Volume 4

We love these books, and can't wait for the next one in the series. The funniest part is always Harvey the cat and his imaginative antics. The pacing of the books is very well done, and remarkably the books are not grim like so many children's books that center around orphaned kids, whose parents have been killed etc... Even though the books deal with topics of life and death, they aren't handled in a typical brusque manner. At the heart of the book is the girl' trips to Elsewhere, a very magical and yet haunting use of artwork.

On a whim I bought Book 1 at a used bookstore and enjoyed it a lot and have now read the first four. I know the Books of Elsewhere series are kids books but I bought the rest just for me. Per all the reviews it would appear a number of adults are reading this series. A very good story that moves along well. Good, easy, escapist reading. Eagerly awaiting book five to become available in paperback.

Just like the three books before, Strangers: vol. 4 of the Elsewhere books is excellent. The characters are so well defined they flow seamlessly through the story, each of them contributing to the continual suspense, creepiness and humor. This series of books is a must for children and adults who enjoy a good mystery that has a way of keeping you on the edge of your seat.

I am 10 years old and love this series. I like how she uses personification and makes things come to life. I like how Olive goes on many adventures with Morton and the cats. It has enough scary to keep you interested but not too much that you can't sleep. I recommend it for 8-12 year olds. This was my favorite book in the series. I can't wait for the next one.

My 10 year old daughter just loves these books. She didn't love volume 3 but she said volume 4 was a winner. Volume 5 comes out in a month or so and she can't wait for the release. Honestly, she does not want to put the books down.Thank you Jacqueline West for getting my reluctant reader to want to read non-stop!
