Love Elsie's new book
Love Elsie's new book. I have all her other books and she is running true to form. Another winner. Can't wait to get started on one of her quilts.

Colorful scrap quilts made easy.
I enjoyed the detailed how to photos and instructions, especially gor msking perfect y seams and curved seams. Elsie's technique for sewing the ends of bindings together worked perfectly the first time i tried it. I love colorful scrap quilts and these are certainly that. Thank you for a lovely fresh looking take on scrap quilting.

Can't tell if this book is for beginner or advanced quilters
This book includes nine projects. The smallest of the six quilts is 64" square while the largest is 96.5" x 108.5". The other three projects are table runners. The first 28 pages include the introduction and how-to pages that included good pictures. These pages would be great for a beginner or someone who needs a refresher. In the instructions about sewing on the binding, I consider myself an intermediate quilter and have made many quilts and projects but for some reason, I didn't understand what Elsie was trying to say about when the tails meet after you've sewn the binding on all the way around. (Luckily, I have my own favorite way so I'm good to go.) Elsie also described how she likes to piece her quilt blocks...she does it vertically from the right to the left. I typically connect blocks in rows and then sew the rows together but I can see where Elsie's way could have some advantages since you are flipping the furthest right-hand block on top of the one to the left and stacking the block pairs below it so that you can take them to the sewing machine. You then chain piece them then sew those together without cutting the chain threads.Throughout the project patterns, Elsie identified steps for cutting using either templates, a rotary cutter, and a die cutter (she uses an Accuquilt Go). The choice is yours. When using a Go cutter, she provides the die numbers to use.Out of the projects, there were three quilts that I liked but only one (Winter Ice) that I have any interest in making. That (for me) isn't very good odds.Is this book for everyone? No. It seems that the basic instructions are good but geared for a novice quilter while the patterns, several of which include Y seams and one that has curved piecing, are better suited for someone with a bit (or a lot) of quilting experience.I like the fact that the book was printed in the US by Landauer Publishing.Would I have bought this book if I had been able to thumb through it beforehand? I'm sad to say...no.

Great for beginners, less so for advanced quilters.
The projects are really good but I was hoping for more instruction about using color in scrap quilts, including Elsie's insight into fabric selection for her beautiful scrap quilts. I think it would be a great starting point for beginning quilters.
