Kidde Smoke/carbon monoxide detector
We have had Kidde monitors for years and they are very reliable. In fact they woke us for a small basement fire that could have been devastating. The voice alert is very useful. They are electrical with battery backup and you change the battery once a year. They are competitive in price also. We had to replace ours due to age and found that Kidde had a suggested model equal to the old ones and they had developed an adapter kit for a nominal price so when you put it in, you need not rewire the whole thing. The customer service rep was very patient and helpful as to getting the right model and the adapterpiece. To replace it, we had to seek help however, because we wanted it to be done properly and the directions were complicated for us. We trust Kidde and like the combo aspect of the product.

Nice Design and Performance
I was at the 10 year point with my previous smoke and CO2 alarms. The sensors were at end of life. Looked at a few replacements and found these alarms. Though you don't need a combo alarm in every area, pricing and capability was worth it. A nice feature is you don't have to remember when you changed the battery, or listen for a chirp, or look for a red light. The alarm will speak to you and say the battery is low. Doesn't matter if you have a different AC connector on your last alarms, these come with a new AC pigtail connector you can install. Very please with the purchase and design.

Interconnected detectors can save your life, when if one goes off, they all go off.
New 10 warranty is really nice. Our last Kidde detectors only had 5 year warranty and false alarms started at 6.5 years so they went in the trash, even though they were supposed to last 10 years. Interconnected detectors can save your life when if one goes off they all go off so you cannot miss an alarm. This feature is not available on all models and depends on your house wiring. They may now have wireless ones that talk to each other, so look for this feature., especially if you have a basement or more than one level home.

Too sensitive causes false alarms
Bought it in March to replace the previous Kidde one installed in new home. Had no issues with false alarms with that one. This week after 5 months it kept going off with the FIRE FIRE alarm that would start and stop. There was no smoke of any kind anywhere--not even outside. Removed it (not easy as previous one due to change in design) and called Kidde for customer support as it should be under warranty. I was told this new model is very sensitive and needs to be cleaned every 6 months at least (which it is not even that old) with compressed air. She said smoke from outside, bugs, whatever trigger sensor. With high ceilings this is completely not practical. It starts and stops constantly until you yank it off. They will not stand by warranty. Not a cheap unit. Don't buy.
