China's Golden Age: Everyday Life in the Tang Dynasty

Quite possibly my favourite book about Tang China
There isn't too much I can say about this book other than that if you're interested in Tang China (618-906), or know someone who is, this is one of the best books out there. Whether a novice or an expert, I think this book would provide some new information. Topics range from houses, the marketplace, law and order, medicine, food, hygiene, class and much more. It reminded me of Ian Mortimer's time travellers' guides, and was on par with it as a window into the lives of ordinary people living centuries ago. In addition it also gives a concise, yet detailed, account of the history of the period, as well as being based on several first hand sources unavailable in English.

Nice, but NOT illustrations
Very nice book to read, but it has NOT nice or at all illustrations.Use your imagination, but if you don’t know anything about ancient China it’s hard to imagine what daily life things would look like.Nice but absolutely needed nice coloured illustrations.
