Just what you need if you life MG F and TF
I own an MG TF 54 registration and believe that it is a classic car. No it is not the origiginal TF, nor is it one of the much loved B or C. What it is is a car which was designed and built during a difficult time for BL and ultimately the Rover Group. This book covers the development story behind the F and the struggle to intrduce innovation against a back drop of austerity and political wrangling. What was eventually produced was a mid engined two seat sports coupe with a drop top which outsold the MR2 and MX-5 in Europe for each of the years when it was in mjaor production. The author goes on to illustrate what an achievement this was, in particular the negotiations with BMW to get the car into production.I really found this book enlightening and it made me realise what we missed in terms of development during the 70's, 80's and 90's, which with sufficient investment in the right place and without political involvement might have been. A must have if you want to know more about the rise and fall of this fantastic two seat sports car.

The complete story - almost.
A well researched, illustrated and informative book on the MGF & TF sports cars, and its various special editions. It tells the history of both cars from inception to production, with plenty of illustrations of "what might have beens" at the development stage, which is a fascinating subject in its own right. The author does not shrink from highlighting the problems that MG has faced from the very beginning; the lack of finance and commitment from the powers that be, the sale to BMW and the problems that caused due to lack of investment, and then the little matter of the buy back by the Phoenix Group and its subsequent collapse. The latest period under Chinese ownership is also covered which everyone hoped would bring a degree of stabilisation to the marque. The book was published in in 2010 and whilst it covers the development & production of the TF in some detail, the author was not to know that production of the TF was to cease by 2011.

MGF and MGTF the complete story
The ideal companion to Roger Parker's 'Haynesian' style manual, Roger's is a more practical advice book with loads of useful info on maintaining which is better done than the official factory workshop manual, I also found the extensive colour photos useful when working on my own cars. The David Knowles book has a lot more of the history and includes pictures of the development and 'might have been' concept cars based on the MGF unit. The MGF and MG TF are great cars to own and drive, I have 3 of them, I would recommend both books as they really do cover the car well.

My MGF's history revealed
I was interested in the history of my recently purchased MGF 1.8i Mk.II.This book is the answer to all my questions. In 1995 the MGF was the first (and last?) real British two-seat roadster design after the MGB had left the stage in 1980. This book gives also an insight in the gradual demise of the once proud British car industry (the exception being Morgan). The book is well documented, and also well stocked with illustrations - photos as well as sketches and drawings, all in full colour.I enjoyed this book very much, as I also enjoy driving in my little British MGF roadster.

The title says it all!
I bought it for my hubby who has a lovely MG TF 160 Sprint (well actually, we share it when the sun shines!) He says the book is a very interesting read if you like that sort of thing. There are lots of words, but lots of illustrations too. You just need to set aside some time to have a good read of it.

was a bit disappointed.
Was an ok read but I wanted to know more about the MG TF and this is mostly history, the MGF and models that never were, was a bit disappointed.

A bitter-sweet story
A great read for all car buffs. The story of what it takes to grow and develop a concept into a brand and iconic vehicle .Arriving to late the MGF never got a foothold in the market that was filled with cheaper alternatives and drivers were spolit for choices.A great car and a cracking read.
