Frame Drum, 12", With Beater

A real and sturdy frame drum that gets the job done. I like how it sounds overall, the beater even came with black leather! It’s not too loud, and not too deep which fits my liking. I even beat the frame which makes a wonderful hollow sound, and it creates the right vibrations for what I need.

I received exactly what I order promptly and in great condition. This is the first frame drum I've owned. I can only compare it to others I've used and it is above average to me and a good value. I like that it comes with a beater included. I already have dreams of a larger tuneable drum in the future :)

Great quality drum. Price for size was great as well.It was easily portable, sliding into a common size bag. It has a good sounding resonance and was great for our purpose (study of indigenous drums and beginner music class.)The only issue was that I thought I’d be receiving a beater with this drum but I only received the drum itself, plus the shipping was less than stellar- but that’s more Amazons fault than the seller. :)

This drum has a good tone and is very well made. I have used it at six drumming events and my children have played with it with no issues. The beater tie came undone, but it's only for asthetics and super glued back on easily.

I received the drum, opened it, and to my surprise, it sounds exactly like playing a coffee can.

The drum itself is OK. The sound is a bit tinny but it looks good and is playable. By itself, I would probably give the drum 4 stars. However, the beater arrived broken as can be seen in the photo. This wouldn't be too surprising since the stick is a thin dowel and it came in a bag without padding. What was irritating was that the other part of the beater stick wasn't in the bag, so it wasn't broken in shipping. This suggests that the thing was sent with a broken beater.

Of course how good an instruments sounds is subjective, but I found this drum sounds bad. The tone is sort of a high pitched 'bluaang bluanng' and the tone occuring after the beater hits sounds similar to the sound of a basketball after it bounces up from the court. Maybe this drum is supposed to sound this way, it is my first shaman drum, but even so, I get no enjoyment or other benefit from the sound of this drum. It has an airish high tone to it, not anything like a more deeper strong tone. I own other drums (Udu, Bongos, Tabla, Djembe) and I like those, it's just this one I don't like. My advice is spend a little extra to a buy a 16" or 22" Remo buffalo drum, which by the way, I dont own that so I have not tried it, but a bigger drum will have a deeper tone I would find more appealing for the shaman drum sound.
