The Odd Egg

Lovely little story
Interesting story and there is also some interactivity built into the design of the book - there are different eggs and each chick hatching is presented in split pages. Toddler enjoyed it!

An unexpected ending in a a clever format: Toddler addictive!
At first sight, not really knowing what to assume of the unexpected ending.I was not sure how politically correct the message was. After reading it a couple of times, it grew on me and started making sense. My sense.Definetely not just one more book.My almost two year old got addicted to it. Very clever format. She wanted to hear and see the eggs crack/ hatch one after the other again and again. You should choose it if you are looking for something original and fun for your child.I have loved the aestetics of this book.

Unique and entertaining book for babies and toddlers
The media could not be loaded. We purchased this book for my older baby as an Easter treat. Of all of the books on the market, it was the best we could find; it isn’t an overt Easter book, meaning my daughter enjoys it all year round. We found many of the Easter themed books were a little cheesy, but this one is a genuinely funny children’s story, with the bonus of still being egg related. But enough about Easter…the book! It tells a funny little tale of male duck who really wants an egg of his own to hatch. The story is funny and achieves a lot of its humour with very few works - aka great for kids. The illustrations of duck looking between his legs for an egg and with his ‘baby’ at the end are favourites of my daughter and the adults in her life. There are lots of opportunities to expand on the story with your little ones by discussing or pointing out the pictures. The colours are bold and the illustrations are also lovely. The small pages in the middle showcasing the eggs cracking are also great - my daughter loves turning these pages. It’s very reminiscent of The Very Hungry Caterpillar, but still a great novelty feature. The ‘cracks’ and ‘snap’ also allow for lots of opportunity to engage your kiddos in the story, both with sounds and actions. All in all, we love this story, and my daughter is very happy to have it read to her again and again, even well into her toddler years.

Very educational!
A beautifully illustrated book showing the many variations in egg size and shape from the tiny Robin's egg through a number of birds to the large flamingo egg. The (male mallard!) duck doesn't lay an egg, so here's the first talking point. He finds one. The surprise at the end of the story is another useful discussion on which animals lay eggs. A perfect story for introducing young children to the concept of birds (and other animals) laying eggs to reproduce. Enables talk about the variety of life and is fabulous for predicting.

Lovely story and illustrations
Used this as a class text and the children (3 and 4) loved it. Prompted lots of discussion about which animals hatch out of eggs and about crocodiles. We also talked alot about the importance of kindness.

A lovable picturebook
I loved it at first sight, when I saw it in a book-shop window. Next day I bought it as a gift. Unfortunately I only bought one, so since then I have tried to get another copy. Patience and good luck helps, so now I have one for myself and on more to give away. The story is funny, lovely and relevant in our modern society and the drawings are absolutely beautiful

Ilustraciones visuales y bonitas.
Recomendable. Espero haberte sido útil.

Whimsical and delightful
It's delightfu! I especially love the part where the different birds' eggs hatch, and the little details such as the owl's reading material.
