Charleston in My Time: The Paintings of West Fraser

If you live in the low country, you know West Fraser has captured its essence well. If you are an aspiring landscape painter, this is where you want to be. If you have seen his paintings in real life you know this books does them justice. His greatest strength is his handling of light and shadow. His weakness, the scale of the human elements in his paintings.

Beautiful book. I am a beginner artist and this is inspirational to me in that way. But it is a wonderful coffee table book as well for guests in my home.

I gave this beautiful book to my future daughter-in-law to use as the "guest book" at their wedding. They got engaged in Charleston and this book will remind them of a very special day in their lives. The guests will write their notes to the bride and groom in the blank spaces surrounding the artwork. Not only is the book's artwork gorgeous, but now it will have a very personal touch!

This is a great picture book. The art photography is excellent. However, I really wish there had been more about each of the paintings, and more about the artist. Why he chooses particular subjects, etc. I think it would be wonderful to include additional information if he chooses to publish a second book.

West Fraser is an amazing painter. His book belongs in any collectors library.
