Solid Entry-Level Laser Engraver with Great Value
The media could not be loaded. I purchased the 5W version of the LONGER Ray5 laser engraver, and overall, I’m quite satisfied with it — especially considering the price. The machine comes with a protective laser shield, which is a great addition for added safety during operation.Assembly took me about an hour. The instructions were mostly clear, but I did struggle to find any information in the manual regarding the app download. Eventually, I located the necessary resources on the manufacturer’s website. The app itself is quite simple but functional, and it gets the job done without any major issues.I’ve tried engraving on a wood pad so far, and the results were clean and precise — better than I expected for a 5W laser. I haven’t tested the cutting function yet, but I’m planning to try it on acrylic soon. The 3.5" touchscreen and offline functionality are convenient features that add to the overall ease of use.One area for improvement would be including more detailed safety guidelines in the documentation, especially for beginners. Still, this is a solid product for hobbyists or DIY users, and I would recommend it to anyone looking to get started with laser engraving and light cutting.

great entry level laser engraver
Although the 5W model of the LONGER Ray5 looks identical to what I saw in online videos, I highly recommend following the Quick Start Guide that comes with the unit. The moving bar with the rollers should be installed before attaching the front frame bar. Overall, the setup process was not difficult at all.The 3.5" touchscreen is responsive and user-friendly. The menu layout is simple and easy to navigate, which made the initial configuration quick and painless. I appreciated the flexible connectivity options—you can use USB, TF card, WiFi, or even control it through a mobile app. I started by connecting it to my laptop using LaserGRBL. The software is straightforward, with lots of online resources available. I also gave the LightBurn app a try on my phone and was pleasantly surprised by how convenient it is to run simple projects wirelessly. The 400x400mm work area provides ample space to experiment with various materials and project sizes. As someone completely new to laser engraving, there is definitely a learning curve. It’s a great choice for beginners and hobbyists alike.

Not bad
FINALLY!! This is the THIRD laser I’ve bought in 2 weeks and it actually connects to the computer and works fine with both laserGBRL and Lightburn. Etches/engraved steel and glass with no issue and very clean. The laser itself is definitely what it says and is quite powerful. It does a really nice, detailed engraving of photos too!I am an absolute beginner i.e (just taught myself to use lightburn like 2 days ago) and I was happy with the ease of use and assembly. Instructions are pretty ehh but whatever.. use your brain and you’ll be ok, hopefully.Cons:There are no physical limit switches so be careful and take your time to make sure you place your file correctly. Don’t trust lightburn to follow your input of the laser dimensions.Doesn’t come with a honeycomb panel so you’ll have to buy one or put down a piece of sheet metal like I did.Anyhow.. nice powerful laser for the money in my opinion!
