This book is worth it for the pictures alone
Excellent instruction, solid advice on tools and sharpening. Unfortunately I can't stop looking at the pictures, so I'll get to all that later. This is a fantastic collection of Alec's artwork, and is worth the money just for this alone. I have never been so inspired to learn more.

Amazing resource for any type of carver
I have been following Alec on YouTube for a while now, and I knew I had to pick up his book. I am not disappointed a bit, as the book is full of valuable information for any type of carver. It has great examples throughout detailing how to go about everything to do with the face. I don't go for extreme realism in my carvings, but this book has helped me with proportions and fundamentals.I do not carve bark or large faces, but my whittle projects have faces too. I've been struggling recently with trying to get mouths and noses to my liking, and this book has helped me improve bit by bit.I am not a pro by any means but I can see myself getting better and better with each carving, and this book is going to accelerate my growth.

THe illustrations are really helpful.
I found this book to show the different ways to approach carving a face. It is very helpful for understanding the different areas to carve a realistic face. I wished there were more pics for the hand carver, but eventually I might go to chisel .

Wonderful instruction for all levels
Alex is a great teacher. After reading the book, I ordered a shipment of cottonwood bark, several tools that I didn't have in my collection, and subscribed to Alex' carving school. Very much looking forward to getting started with this new medium.
