Organic Spree Stone Flower 50g – Dagad Phool (Kalpasi) – Aromatic Culinary Herb for Traditional Cooking

We love Indian food and have recently started trying to make it at home. We have found that getting and using authentic spices is key.This stone flower is fresh and blooms beautifully when cooked.

So far I have only used these stone flowers in 2 recipes that I found on the internet and they tasted pretty good. When the stone flowers are added to hot oil, they bloom and release a unique earthy aroma. A little bit goes a long way, so I'm going to have to find alot more recipes that use stone flowers. Even though this isn't a huge bag it will last quite a bit of time. This spice is new to me, but it's been in spice blends that I have used before so it was unique finding out what it tasted like on its own. The good thing is it has a 2 year shelf life. My bag had an expiration date of April 2027 and it is resealable. They are fairly clean, but I did follow the instructions and washed them under running water prior to using.

This is my first time cooking with stone flower. I tossed some into ghee to bloom it prior to adding to a curry. It added a nice earthy flavor that elevated the meal. The resealable zipper pouch keeps it fresh and since you really only need a pinch it will last me quite a while. It's on the pricier side, but if you're looking to create more authentic Indian dishes I'd recommend giving it a try.

Stone flower is the key ingredient for a truly authentic Indian-style biyani. Of course, you can make biyani without it, but it will not taste the same. Anyway, this stone-flower product is excellent. The leafy lichens are relatively clean, but I always rinse them before using. There is a generous amount in the bag, and it is a labor-intensive process for the workers to collect them, so the price is very reasonable. Very pleased with this product.

Rinsed these well, added to a pot of lentil soup and it gave it a great flavor, really enjoy the product.

I received “Organic Spree Stone Flower 50gm (1.76oz) Dagad Phool – Kalpasi – Pure and Natural 50gm.” It came in a resealable zippered pouch. It smells slightly earthy, and it has a very subtle salty flavor. It looks very fresh, and it feels very crisp. It has nice black-and-white coloring.

I wasn’t very familiar with this spice but there are lots of recipes online. It’s not very strongly scented out of the bag but appears to be fresh. After rinsing I cooked some in a big of oil which really blossomed the flavor. It’s pretty unique and I think you’d only need a little bit at a time so this bag should last for a very long time.
