A wonderful introduction for children to the world of ballet, especially designed for ages four through six.

Fabulously simple and great for younger kids.
I can't believe how time flies.. I bought it in 2006 and my kids and their friends played this for hours! They loved this DVD!I think while the material might be bit advanced for a 4 year old, you can start easily exposing them at this age or even earlier because the moves are presented and they allow the kid to get familiar with what the proper ballet techniques, names and position and moves are.You got some older children who are in the video but little kids often like to see older kids as this make them feel more inspired and they "aspire" to do what the older kids do..I would not encourage you to push a child to do all the steps along with the video as some might be way advanced for their motor skills and they could get discouraged but if you want to just casually play it and let the kid watch few times and let them gradually grow into the steps then that would be way to go.Overall really good DVD. Not super overstimulating and not overwhelming for the age of 5ish butmight be too challenging to follow for younger crowd.

Awesome for toddler's first class and for playdates!
I remember starting ballet classes at age 5. Much of the initial learning curve is how to follow the teacher's instructions, learning the vocabulary, feeling out the support of the bar, getting dressed appropriately, learning to coordinate hands and feet, and other things like that which have nothing to do with the actual dancing. I think before you send your kid to ballet class, use this video a few times and they will be far more prepared for class and probably will enjoy it more. Set out the outfit and your toddler can learn how to put it on themselves and don't start the DVD before they're all dressed because a teacher wouldn't let you in class without being fully prepared. Follow the first few lessons repeatedly, first with your toddler and then let them do it by themselves, and then move on to the lessons away from the bar. My daughter asks for this dvd once a week and it is enough to motivate her to cleanup all toys from the floor to make space for dancing as well as putting on her full ballet ensemble. You can even do it with friends during a playdate. I bought Sassafras ballerina necklaces and gave them out as a little reward after they completed their "ballet class" together.

Great for pre-schoolers
I have two girls - a 3yr old and a 5 1/2 yr old. Neither have taken ballet lessons before. We've had this video for about three months and the girls watch it (and have ballet class!) at least twice a week. I wanted to enroll the girls in a beginner ballet class, but it didn't work with our schedule. This video is really good for introducing the basic things you would probably encounter in a beginning ballet class. The moves are clearly demonstrated and explained, then you practice what was just taught. The video is divided into two halves. In the first half, each move is explained, demonstrated, then practiced. In the second half, the "class" moves through the steps taught, without the instructor demonstrating, just like you would in a ballet class. Both the 3 yr old and 5.5 yr old have been able to understand and learn the moves. I was looking for a traditional ballet class video and I've been very happy with Baby Ballet. (We don't have a ballet barre at our home, we just use the kitchen chairs for barre work and do the class barefoot in our family room.) Both girls are starting to do some of the moves around the house when the tape isn't on, so I think the material is age appropriate.

Its not extra fun, its not hip and modern
I have an energetic 5 year old who wants to be a ballerina. this of course was triggered by Angelina ballerina, unfortunately angelina falls down in class all the time. she also doesn't always follow instructions. As a result, when my little ballerina started taking lessons, she would do the same thing. This video walks you through a teaching of each move used and the warm ups, it then allows you to watch (and participate in) an actual ballet class. Its not extra fun, its not hip and modern, its a camera pointed at a ballet class. that was exactly what I was looking for. This has given my daughter a more realistic idea of what her behavior should look like in a ballet class.if you want a fun video about pretending to be a ballerina, i recommend Angelina ballerina. if you want a video that will allow your child to practice what they have already learned, or to actually teach them something, i would recommend this video.good luck.

Useful, helpful, best baby ballet video we own.
I'm very thankful to the makers of this video, it is helpful not only for my kid, but also for me, as I teach dance, I've picked up a couple of very nice ideas from this program. They have a set of ballet moves to do at the barre (some students do them holding on to chairs, so that solved the problem of not having a barre at home, and the kid saw that chairs were ok for exercising. Then they follow with a nice stretch routine. Then they do some moves away from the barre, like little jumps and arm positions (very nice combinations, by the way) and finally some jumps and leaps across the floor. Overall it is very nicely structured, the little dancers are adorable and they ARE good. The teacher explains every combination talking to the camera, and then they do it with music. And the soundtrack is really good, it's peaceful and beautiful, and makes you want to do ballet. We've been practicing with it twice a week for a month and still happy with it.

for six year old
very good beginner's dvd. not too fast, or complicated. My six year old loves it, especially the dance around the floor bit.
