Q: Are you able to remove this lock prior to riding, or does the lock stay in place while riding but deactivated...?

You MUST remove the lock prior to riding...it is not only an alarm, but a disc LOCK. You will be unable to ride with the lock attached to your brake disc.

Q: How do you set this alarm and then put your cover on... without triggering the alarm?

The alarm is not so sensitive that you couldn't put your cover on over it. Just attach the alarm to the brake disc and then put your cover on as normal. The lock usually hangs in such a way so as to let it rest against the disc and that keeps it relatively stable.

Q: Would this work/fit on a 2005 gsxr 1000?

I would suggest that you go to this link https://www.xenasecurity.com/xx10/ and look at the dimensions shown and check the rotor on your GSXR. They also have a "Contact" click that you can ask them your question. All I can tell you is I have a 2016 Indian Scout and the Xena works perfect and is really a great security system. I would recommend getting one of the plastic cables that go from the lock to the handlebars so you don't forget that it's ON and try to ride OFF....bad!

It's been quite a long time since I used my Xena lock, but as I recall the opening was rather narrow; less than 1/2". Unfortunately, this specific lock won't fit your rotor. You could poke around their website and see if anything will work, and could also try contacting Xena and see if you can negotiate manufacture of a one-off lock to fit to your specification. If you do get lucky and either find a lock for your size OR they agree to make a one-off for you be sure to specify what size pin you need.
